1
What a Beautiful Bride / He Speaks:
My darling, you are lovely, so very lovely— as you look through your veil, your eyes are those of a dove. Your hair tosses about as gracefully as goats coming down from Gilead.
Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead.
2 Your teeth are whiter than sheep freshly washed; they match perfectly, not one is missing. Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them.
3 Your lips are crimson cords, your mouth is shapely; behind your veil are hidden beautiful rosy cheeks. Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks.
4 Your neck is more graceful than the tower of David, decorated with thousands of warriors' shields. Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men.
5 Your breasts are perfect; they are twin deer feeding among lilies. Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies.
6 I will hasten to those hills sprinkled with sweet perfume and stay there till sunrise. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.
7 My darling, you are lovely in every way. Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.
8 My bride, together we will leave Lebanon! We will say goodbye to the peaks of Mount Amana, Senir, and Hermon, where lions and leopards live in the caves. Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.
9 My bride, my very own, you have stolen my heart! With one glance from your eyes and the glow of your necklace, you have stolen my heart. Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.
10 Your love is sweeter than wine; the smell of your perfume is more fragrant than spices. How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!
11 Your lips are a honeycomb; milk and honey flow from your tongue. Your dress has the aroma of cedar trees from Lebanon. Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.
12 My bride, my very own, you are a garden, a fountain closed off to all others. A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.
13 Your arms are vines, covered with delicious fruits and all sorts of spices— henna, nard, Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,
14 saffron, calamus, cinnamon, frankincense, myrrh, and aloes —all the finest spices. Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:
15 You are a spring in the garden, a fountain of pure water, and a refreshing stream from Mount Lebanon. A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.
16
She Speaks:
Let the north wind blow, the south wind too! Let them spread the aroma of my garden, so the one I love may enter and taste its delicious fruits.
Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.
