(A special psalm by the clan of Korah and for the music leader. To the tune “Lilies.” A love song.) / For a Royal Wedding
My thoughts are filled with beautiful words for the king, and I will use my voice as a writer would use pen and ink.
My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
No one is as handsome as you! Your words are always kind. That is why God will always bless you. Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.
Mighty king, glorious ruler, strap on your sword Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty.
and ride out in splendor! Win victories for truth and mercy and justice. Do fearsome things with your powerful arm. And in thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things.
Send your sharp arrows through enemy hearts and make all nations fall at your feet. Thine arrows are sharp in the heart of the king’s enemies; whereby the people fall under thee.
You are God, and you will rule forever as king. Your royal power brings about justice. Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.
You love justice and hate evil. And so, your God chose you and made you happier than any of your friends. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
The sweet aroma of the spices myrrh, aloes, and cassia covers your royal robes. You enjoy the music of harps in palaces decorated with ivory. All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
Daughters of kings are here, and your bride stands at your right side, wearing a wedding gown trimmed with pure gold. Kings’ daughters were among thy honourable women: upon thy right hand did stand the queen in gold of Ophir.
Bride of the king, listen carefully to me. Forget your own people and your father's family. Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;
The king adores you. He is your master, so do what he desires. So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.
All of the richest people from the city of Tyre will try to influence you And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
with precious treasures. Your bride, my king, has inward beauty, and her wedding gown is woven with threads of gold. The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
Wearing the finest garments, she is brought to you, followed by her young friends, the bridesmaids. She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
Everyone is excited, as they follow you to the royal palace. With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the king’s palace.
Your sons and your grandsons will also be kings as your ancestors were. You will make them rulers everywhere on earth. Instead of thy fathers shall be thy children, whom thou mayest make princes in all the earth.
I will make your name famous from now on, and you will be praised forever and ever. I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations: therefore shall the people praise thee for ever and ever.
