(A psalm by David for the music leader.) / The Wonders of God and the Goodness of His Law
The heavens keep telling the wonders of God, and the skies declare what he has done.
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Each day informs the following day; each night announces to the next. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
They don't speak a word, and there is never the sound of a voice. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
Yet their message reaches all the earth, and it travels around the world. In the heavens a tent is set up for the sun. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
It rises like a bridegroom and gets ready like a hero eager to run a race. Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
It travels all the way across the sky. Nothing hides from its heat. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
The Law of the Lord is perfect; it gives us new life. His teachings last forever, and they give wisdom to ordinary people. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The Lord's instruction is right; it makes our hearts glad. His commands shine brightly, and they give us light. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
Worshiping the Lord is sacred; he will always be worshiped. All his decisions are correct and fair. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
They are worth more than the finest gold and are sweeter than honey from a honeycomb. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
By your teachings, Lord, I am warned; by obeying them, I am greatly rewarded. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
None of us know our faults. Forgive me when I sin without knowing it. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
Don't let me do wrong on purpose, Lord, or let sin have control over my life. Then I will be innocent, and not guilty of some terrible fault. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
Let my words and my thoughts be pleasing to you, Lord, because you are my mighty rock and my protector. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
