The Takes Care of His Creation I praise you, Lord God, with all my heart. You are glorious and majestic, dressed in royal robes
Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. |
and surrounded by light. You spread out the sky like a tent, | Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
and you built your home over the mighty ocean. The clouds are your chariot with the wind as its wings. | Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
The winds are your messengers, and flames of fire are your servants. | Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
You built foundations for the earth, and it will never be shaken. | Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.
You covered the earth with the ocean that rose above the mountains. | Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains.
Then your voice thundered! And the water flowed | At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away.
down the mountains and through the valleys to the place you prepared. | They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys unto the place which thou hast founded for them.
Now you have set boundaries, so that the water will never flood the earth again. | Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; that they turn not again to cover the earth.
You provide streams of water in the hills and valleys, | He sendeth the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills.
so that the donkeys and other wild animals can satisfy their thirst. | They give drink to every beast of the field: the wild asses quench their thirst.
Birds build their nests nearby and sing in the trees. | By them shall the fowls of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches.
From your home above you send rain on the hills and water the earth. | He watereth the hills from his chambers: the earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.
You let the earth produce grass for cattle, plants for our food, | He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
wine to cheer us up, olive oil for our skin, and grain for our health. | And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man’s heart.
Our Lord, your trees always have water, and so do the cedars you planted in Lebanon. | The trees of the Lord are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
Birds nest in those trees, and storks make their home in the fir trees. | Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.
Wild goats find a home in the tall mountains, and small animals can hide between the rocks. | The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies.
You created the moon to tell us the seasons. The sun knows when to set, | He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.
and you made the darkness, so the animals in the forest could come out at night. | Thou makest darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest do creep forth.
Lions roar as they hunt for the food you provide. | The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God.
But when morning comes, they return to their dens, | The sun ariseth, they gather themselves together, and lay them down in their dens.
then we go out to work until the end of day. | Man goeth forth unto his work and to his labour until the evening.
Our Lord, by your wisdom you made so many things; the whole earth is covered with your living creatures. | O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.
But what about the ocean so big and wide? It is alive with creatures, large and small. | So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts.
And there are the ships, as well as Leviathan, the monster you created to splash in the sea. | There go the ships: there is that leviathan, whom thou hast made to play therein.
All of these depend on you to provide them with food, | These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.
and you feed each one with your own hand, until they are full. | That thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good.
But when you turn away, they are terrified; when you end their life, they die and rot. | Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.
You created all of them by your Spirit, and you give new life to the earth. | Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.
Our Lord, we pray that your glory will last forever and that you will be pleased with what you have done. | The glory of the Lord shall endure for ever: the Lord shall rejoice in his works.
You look at the earth, and it trembles. You touch the mountains, and smoke goes up. | He looketh on the earth, and it trembleth: he toucheth the hills, and they smoke.
As long as I live, I will sing and praise you, the Lord God. | I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.
I hope my thoughts will please you, because you are the one who makes me glad. | My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.
Destroy all wicked sinners from the earth once and for all. With all my heart I praise you, Lord! I praise you! | Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless thou the Lord, O my soul. Praise ye the Lord.
