After the Festival of Thin Bread, we sailed from Philippi. Five days later we met them in Troas and stayed there for a week. | And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread, and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
Paul's Last Visit to Troas On the first day of the week we met to break bread together. Paul spoke to the people until midnight because he was leaving the next morning.
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. |

A young man by the name of Eutychus was sitting on a window sill. While Paul was speaking, the young man got very sleepy. Finally, he went to sleep and fell three floors all the way down to the ground. When they picked him up, he was dead. | And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
Paul went down and bent over Eutychus. He took him in his arms and said, “Don't worry! He's alive.” | And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble not yourselves; for his life is in him.

And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot. |
When he met us in Assos, he came aboard, and we sailed on to Mitylene. | And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
The next day we came to a place near Chios, and the following day we reached Samos. | 16 | Paul had decided to sail on past Ephesus, because he did not want to spend too much time in Asia. He was in a hurry and wanted to be in Jerusalem in time for Pentecost. | For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
Paul Says Goodbye to the Church Leaders of Ephesus From Miletus, Paul sent a message for the church leaders at Ephesus to come and meet with him.
And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. |
When they got there, he said: You know everything I did during the time I was with you when I first came to Asia. | And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all seasons,
Some of the Jews plotted against me and caused me a lot of sorrow and trouble. But I served the Lord and was humble. | Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
When I preached in public or taught in your homes, I didn't hold back from telling anything that would help you. | And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
I told Jews and Gentiles to turn to God and have faith in our Lord Jesus. | Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
I don't know what will happen to me in Jerusalem, but I must obey God's Spirit and go there. | And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there:
In every city I visit, I am told by the Holy Spirit that I will be put in jail and will be in trouble in Jerusalem. | Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.
But I don't care what happens to me, as long as I finish the work the Lord Jesus gave me to do. And this work is to tell the good news about God's gift of undeserved grace. | But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
I have gone from place to place, preaching to you about God's kingdom, but now I know that none of you will ever see me again. | And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
I tell you today I am no longer responsible for any of you! | Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.
I have told you everything God wants you to know. | For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
Look after yourselves and everyone the Holy Spirit has placed in your care. Be like shepherds to God's church. It is the flock he bought with the blood of his own Son. | Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
I know that after I am gone, others will come like fierce wolves to attack you. | For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Some of your own people will tell lies to win over the Lord's followers. | Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
Be on your guard! Remember how day and night for three years I kept warning you with tears in my eyes. | Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
I now place you in God's care. Remember the message about his gift of undeserved grace! This message can help you and give you what belongs to you as God's people. | And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
I have never wanted anyone's money or clothes. | I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel.
You know how I have worked with my own hands to make a living for myself and my friends. | Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.
By everything I did, I showed how you should work to help everyone who is weak. Remember that our Lord Jesus said, “More blessings come from giving than from receiving.” | I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.
After Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. | And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them all.
Everyone cried and hugged and kissed him. | And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul’s neck, and kissed him,
They were especially sad because Paul had told them, “You will never see me again.” Then they went with him to the ship. | Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.
