1
Judging Others
Don't condemn others, and God won't condemn you.
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 God will be as hard on you as you are on others! He will treat you exactly as you treat them. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 You can see the speck in your friend's eye, but you don't notice the log in your own eye. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 How can you say, “My friend, let me take the speck out of your eye,” when you don't see the log in your own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 You're nothing but show-offs! First, take the log out of your own eye; then you can see how to take the speck out of your friend's eye. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.
6 Don't give to dogs what belongs to God. They will only turn and attack you. Don't throw pearls down in front of pigs. They will trample all over them. () Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Ask, Search, Knock
Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened for you.
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 Everyone who asks will receive. Everyone who searches will find. And the door will be opened for everyone who knocks. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Would any of you give your hungry child a stone, if the child asked for some bread? Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Would you give your child a snake if the child asked for a fish? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give good things to people who ask. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
12 Treat others as you want them to treat you. This is what the Law and the Prophets are all about. () Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
13
The Narrow Gate
Go in through the narrow gate. The gate to destruction is wide, and the road that leads there is easy to follow. A lot of people go through that gate.
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 But the gate to life is very narrow. The road that leads there is so hard to follow that only a few people find it. () Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
15
A Tree and Its Fruit
Watch out for false prophets! They dress up like sheep, but inside they are wolves who have come to attack you.
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16 You can tell what they are by what they do. No one picks grapes or figs from thornbushes. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
19 Every tree producing bad fruit will be chopped down and burned. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
20 You can tell who the false prophets are by their deeds. (,) Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21
A Warning
Not everyone who calls me their Lord will get into the kingdom of heaven. Only the ones who obey my Father in heaven will get in.
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 On the day of judgment many will call me their Lord. They will say, “We preached in your name, and in your name we forced out demons and worked many miracles.” Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 But I will tell them, “I will have nothing to do with you! Get out of my sight, you evil people!” () And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24
Two Builders
Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and winds beat against that house. But it was built on solid rock, and so it did not fall. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 Anyone who hears my teachings and doesn't obey them is like a foolish person who built a house on sand. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally, it fell with a crash. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 When Jesus finished speaking, the crowds were surprised at his teaching. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 He taught them like someone with authority, and not like their teachers of the Law of Moses. For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
