The Temple Will Be Destroyed After Jesus left the temple, his disciples came over and said, “Look at all these buildings!”
And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. |
Jesus replied, “Do you see these buildings? They will certainly be torn down! Not one stone will be left in place.” (; ) | And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Warning about Trouble Later, as Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, his disciples came to him in private and asked, “When will this happen? What will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the world?”
And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? |
Jesus answered: Don't let anyone fool you. | And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Many will come and claim to be me. They will say they are the Messiah, and they will fool many people. | For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
You will soon hear about wars and threats of wars, but don't be afraid. These things will have to happen first, but that isn't the end. | And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Nations and kingdoms will go to war against each other. People will starve to death, and in some places there will be earthquakes. | For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
But this is just the beginning of troubles. | All these are the beginning of sorrows.
You will be arrested, punished, and even killed. Because of me, you will be hated by people of all nations. | Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
Many will give up and will betray and hate each other. | And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
Many false prophets will come and fool a lot of people. | And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Evil will spread and cause many people to stop loving others. | And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
But if you keep on being faithful right to the end, you will be saved. | But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
When the good news about the kingdom has been preached all over the world and told to all nations, the end will come. (; ) | And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
The Horrible Thing Someday you will see that “Horrible Thing” in the holy place, just as the prophet Daniel said. Everyone who reads this must try to understand!
When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) |
If you are living in Judea at that time, run to the mountains. | Then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains:
If you are on the roof of your house, don't go inside to get anything. | Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:
If you are out in the field, don't go back for your coat. | Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.
It will be a terrible time for women who are expecting babies or nursing young children. | And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
And pray that you won't have to escape in winter or on a Sabbath. | But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
This will be the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again. | For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
If God doesn't make the time shorter, no one will be left alive. But because of God's chosen ones, he will make the time shorter. | And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
Someone may say, “Here is the Messiah!” or “There he is!” But don't believe it. | Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
False messiahs and false prophets will come and work great miracles and signs. They will even try to fool God's chosen ones. | For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
But I have warned you ahead of time. | Behold, I have told you before.
If you are told the Messiah is out in the desert, don't go there! And if you are told he is in some secret place, don't believe it! | Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
The coming of the Son of Man will be like lightning that can be seen from east to west. | For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Where there is a corpse, there will always be vultures. (; ) | For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
When the Son of Man Appears Right after those days of suffering, “The sun will become dark, and the moon will no longer shine. The stars will fall, and the powers in the sky will be shaken.”
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: |
Then a sign will appear in the sky. And there will be the Son of Man. All nations on earth will weep when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. | And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
At the sound of a loud trumpet, he will send his angels to bring his chosen ones together from all over the earth. (; ) | And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
A Lesson from a Fig Tree Learn a lesson from a fig tree. When its branches sprout and start putting out leaves, you know summer is near.
Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: |
So when you see all these things happening, you will know the time has almost come. | So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
I can promise you that some of the people of this generation will still be alive when all this happens. | Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
The sky and the earth won't last forever, but my words will. (; ,) | Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
No One Knows the Day or Time No one knows the day or hour. The angels in heaven don't know, and the Son himself doesn't know. Only the Father knows.
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. |
When the Son of Man appears, things will be just as they were when Noah lived. | But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
People were eating, drinking, and getting married right up to the day the flood came and Noah went into the big boat. | For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
They didn't know anything was happening until the flood came and swept them all away. This is how it will be when the Son of Man appears. | And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Two men will be in the same field, but only one will be taken. The other will be left. | Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Two women will be together grinding grain, but only one will be taken. The other will be left. | Two women shall be grinding at the mill; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
So be on your guard! You don't know when your Lord will come. | Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
Homeowners never know when a thief is coming, and they are always on guard to keep one from breaking in. | But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
Always be ready! You don't know when the Son of Man will come. () | Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.
Faithful and Unfaithful Servants Who are faithful and wise servants? Who are the ones the master will put in charge of giving the other servants their food supplies at the proper time?
Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season? |
Servants are fortunate if their master comes and finds them doing their job. | Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
You may be sure a servant who is always faithful will be put in charge of everything the master owns. | Verily I say unto you, That he shall make him ruler over all his goods.
But suppose one of the servants thinks the master won't return until late. | But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
Suppose this evil servant starts beating the other servants and eats and drinks with people who are drunk. | And shall begin to smite his fellowservants, and to eat and drink with the drunken;
If that happens, the master will surely come on a day and at a time when the servant least expects him. | The lord of that servant shall come in a day when he looketh not for him, and in an hour that he is not aware of,
This servant will then be punished and thrown out with the ones who only pretended to serve their master. There they will cry and grit their teeth in pain. | And shall cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
