Faith and Service Jesus said to his disciples: There will always be something that causes people to sin. But anyone who causes them to sin is in for trouble. A person who causes even one of my little followers to sin
Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! |
would be better off thrown into the ocean with a heavy stone tied around their neck. | It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
So be careful what you do. Correct any followers of mine who sin, and forgive the ones who say they are sorry. | Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
Even if one of them mistreats you seven times in one day and says, “I am sorry,” you should still forgive that person. | And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.
The apostles said to the Lord, “Make our faith stronger!” | And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
Jesus replied: If you had faith no bigger than a tiny mustard seed, you could tell this mulberry tree to pull itself up, roots and all, and to plant itself in the ocean. And it would! | And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.
If your servant comes in from plowing or from taking care of the sheep, would you say, “Welcome! Come on in and have something to eat”? | But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?
No, you wouldn't say that. You would say, “Prepare me something to eat. Get ready to serve me, so I can have my meal. Then later on you can eat and drink.” | And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?
Servants don't deserve special thanks for doing what they are supposed to do. | Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.
And that's how it should be with you. When you've done all you should, then say, “We are merely servants, and we have simply done our duty.” | So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.
Ten Men with Leprosy On his way to Jerusalem, Jesus went along the border between Samaria and Galilee.
And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. |
As he was going into a village, ten men with leprosy came toward him. They stood at a distance | And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:
and shouted, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” | And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
Jesus looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” On their way they were healed. | And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
When one of them discovered that he was healed, he came back, shouting praises to God. | And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,
He bowed down at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was from the country of Samaria. | And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, “Weren't ten men healed? Where are the other nine? | And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?
Why was this foreigner the only one who came back to thank God?” | There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
Then Jesus told the man, “You may get up and go. Your faith has made you well.” (,) | And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
God's Kingdom Some Pharisees asked Jesus when God's kingdom would come. He answered, “God's kingdom isn't something you can see.
And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: |
There is no use saying, ‘Look! Here it is’ or ‘Look! There it is.’ God's kingdom is here with you.” | Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
Jesus said to his disciples: The time will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not. | And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it.
When people say to you, “Look there,” or “Look here,” don't go looking for him. | And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them.
The day of the Son of Man will be like lightning flashing across the sky. | For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.
But first he must suffer terribly and be rejected by the people of today. | But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.
When the Son of Man comes, things will be just as they were when Noah lived. | And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
People were eating, drinking, and getting married right up to the day when Noah went into the big boat. Then the flood came and drowned everyone on earth. | They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
When Lot lived, people were also eating and drinking. They were buying, selling, planting, and building. | Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
But on the very day Lot left Sodom, fiery flames poured down from the sky and killed everyone. | But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
The same will happen on the day when the Son of Man appears. | Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
At that time no one on a rooftop should go down into the house to get anything. No one in a field should go back to the house for anything. | In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.
Remember what happened to Lot's wife. | Remember Lot’s wife.
People who try to save their lives will lose them, and those who lose their lives will save them. | Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.
On that night two people will be sleeping in the same bed, but only one will be taken. The other will be left. | I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed; the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left.
— | Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Two women will be together grinding wheat, but only one will be taken. The other will be left. | Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left.
Then Jesus' disciples spoke up, “But where will this happen, Lord?” Jesus said, “Where there is a corpse, there will always be vultures.” | And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together.
