| 1 | Poslouchejte, synové, učení otcova, a pozorujte, abyste poznali rozumnost. | Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. |
| 2 | Nebo naučení dobré dávám vám, neopouštějtež zákona mého. | For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. |
| 3 | Když jsem byl syn u otce svého mladičký, a jediný při matce své, | For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. |
| 4 | On vyučoval mne a říkal mi: Ať se chopí výmluvností mých srdce tvé, ostříhej přikázaní mých, a živ budeš. | He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. |
| 5 | Nabuď moudrosti, nabuď rozumnosti; nezapomínej, ani se uchyluj od řečí úst mých. | Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. |
| 6 | Neopouštějž jí, a bude tě ostříhati; miluj ji, a zachová tě. | Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. |
| 7 | Předně moudrosti, moudrosti nabývej, a za všecko jmění své zjednej rozumnost. | Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. |
| 8 | Vyvyšuj ji, a zvýšíť tě; poctí tě, když ji přijmeš. | Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. |
| 9 | Přidá hlavě tvé příjemnosti, korunou krásnou obdaří tě. | She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. |
| 10 | Slyš, synu můj, a přijmi řeči mé, a tak rozmnoží se léta života tvého. | Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. |
| 11 | Cestě moudrosti učím tě, vedu tě stezkami přímými. | I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. |
| 12 | Když choditi budeš, nebude ssoužen krok tvůj, a poběhneš-li, neustrčíš se. | When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. |
| 13 | Chopiž se učení, nepouštěj, ostříhej ho, nebo ono jest život tvůj. | Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. |
| 14 | Na stezku bezbožných nevcházej, a nekráčej cestou zlostníků. | Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. |
| 15 | Opusť ji, nechoď po ní, uchyl se od ní, a pomiň jí. | Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. |
| 16 | Neboť nespí, leč zlost provedou; anobrž zahánín bývá sen jejich, dokudž ku pádu nepřivodí, | For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall. |
| 17 | Proto že jedí chléb bezbožnosti, a víno loupeží pijí. | For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence. |
| 18 | Ale stezka spravedlivých jako světlo jasné, kteréž rozmáhá se, a svítí až do pravého dne. | But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. |
| 19 | Cesta pak bezbožných jako mrákota; nevědí, na čem se ustrčiti mohou. | The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble. |
| 20 | Synu můj, slov mých pozoruj, k řečem mým nakloň ucha svého. | My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. |
| 21 | Nechať neodcházejí od očí tvých, ostříhej jich u prostřed srdce svého. | Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. |
| 22 | Nebo životem jsou těm, kteříž je nalézají, i všemu tělu jejich lékařstvím. | For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. |
| 23 | Přede vším, čehož se stříci sluší, ostříhej srdce svého, nebo z něho pochází život. | Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. |
| 24 | Odlož od sebe převrácenost úst, a zlost rtů vzdal od sebe. | Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. |
| 25 | Oči tvé ať k dobrým věcem patří, a víčka tvá ať přímě hledí před tebou. | Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. |
| 26 | Zvaž stezku noh svých, a všecky cesty tvé ať jsou spraveny. | Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. |
| 27 | Neuchyluj se na pravo ani na levo, odvrať nohu svou od zlého. | Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. |
