|---|---|---|
| My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
Dlouhosti zajisté dnů, i let života i pokoje přidadí tobě. | For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
Milosrdenství a pravda nechť neopouštějí tě, přivaž je k hrdlu svému, napiš je na tabuli srdce svého, | Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
A nalezneš milost a prospěch výborný před Bohem i lidmi. | So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
Doufej v Hospodina celým srdcem svým, na rozumnost pak svou nezpoléhej. | Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Na všech cestách svých snažuj se jej poznávati, a onť spravovati bude stezky tvé. | In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
| Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
Toť bude zdraví životu tvému, a rozvlažení kostem tvým. | It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Cti Hospodina z statku svého, a z nejpřednějších věcí všech úrod svých, | Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
A naplněny budou stodoly tvé hojností, a presové tvoji mstem oplývati budou. | So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
Kázně Hospodinovy, synu můj, nezamítej, aniž sobě oškliv domlouvání jeho. | My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:
Nebo kohož miluje Hospodin, tresce, a to jako otec syna, jejž libuje. | For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
Blahoslavený člověk nalézající moudrost, a člověk vynášející opatrnost. | Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
Lépeť jest zajisté těžeti jí, nežli těžeti stříbrem, anobrž nad výborné zlato užitek její. | For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
Dražší jest než drahé kamení, a všecky nejžádostivější věci tvé nevrovnají se jí. | She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
Dlouhost dnů v pravici její, a v levici její bohatství a sláva. | Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
Cesty její cesty utěšené, a všecky stezky její pokojné. | Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
Stromem života jest těm, kteříž jí dosahují, a kteříž ji mají, blahoslavení jsou. | She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
Hospodin moudrostí založil zemi, utvrdil nebesa opatrností. | The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
| By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
Synu můj, nechť neodcházejí ty věci od očí tvých, ostříhej zdravého naučení a prozřetelnosti. | My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
I budeť to životem duši tvé, a ozdobou hrdlu tvému. | So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
Tehdy choditi budeš bezpečně cestou svou, a v nohu svou neurazíš se. | Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
| When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Nelekneš se strachu náhlého, ani zpuštění bezbožníků, když přijde. | Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
Nebo Hospodin bude doufání tvé, a ostříhati bude nohy tvé, abys nebyl lapen. | For the Lord shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
Nezadržuj dobrodiní potřebujícím, když s to býti můžeš, abys je činil. | Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
Neříkej bližnímu svému: Odejdi, potom navrať se, a zítrať dám, maje to u sebe. | Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
Neukládej proti bližnímu svému zlého, kterýž s tebou dověrně bydlí. | Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
Nevaď se s člověkem bez příčiny, jestližeť neučinil zlého. | Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
| Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
| For the froward is abomination to the Lord: but his secret is with the righteous.
Zlořečení Hospodinovo jest v domě bezbožníka, ale příbytku spravedlivých žehná: | The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
Poněvadž posměvačům on se posmívá, pokorným pak dává milost. | Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
Slávu moudří dědičně obdrží, ale blázny hubí pohanění. | The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
