1	Sprichwörter, die Mut zum Handeln machen »Schick dein Brot über die Wasserfläche! Denn nach vielen Tagen wirst du es wiederfinden.«	Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2	»Verteil dein Vermögen auf sieben oder acht Leute!« Du weißt ja nicht, welches Unglück über das Land kommt.	Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3	»Wenn die Wolken voll sind, fällt Regen aufs Land!« Und wenn ein Baum nach Süden oder nach Norden fällt, dann bleibt er dort liegen, wohin er fällt.	If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4	»Wer immer nur den Wind beobachtet, kommt nicht zum Säen. Und wer immer nur den Wolken nachschaut, kommt nicht zum Ernten.«	He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5	Du weißt ja nichts von dem Weg des Windes und vom Werden des Kindes im Leib der Schwangeren. Genauso wenig weißt du etwas über das Tun Gottes, der das alles bewirkt.	As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6	»Am Morgen beginne mit deiner Aussaat, und bis zum Abend lass deine Hand nicht ruhn!« Du weißt ja nicht, ob dir das eine oder das andere gelingt oder ob sogar beides zusammen Erfolg hat.	In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
7	Letzter Aufruf zur Freude Man sagt: »Süß ist das Licht und gut für die Augen, wenn sie die Sonne sehen dürfen.«	Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
8	Wenn also ein Mensch viele Jahre lebt, soll er in dieser ganzen Zeit fröhlich sein. Er soll aber auch an die dunklen Tage denken. Denn es werden viele sein. Alles, was kommt, ist Windhauch!	But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9	Freu dich, junger Mann, in deiner Jugend und sei guter Dinge in deinen jungen Jahren! Folge den Wegen, die du gehen willst, und geh dahin, wohin dich deine Augen locken! Aber sei dir auch bewusst, dass du dich für alles vor Gott verantworten musst.	Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10	Halte dir den Ärger von der Seele fern und die Krankheit vom Leib! Denn Jugend und Morgenröte sind schnell vorbei!	Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
