2026-10-25 19:09	`description`	—	History suggests that the presence of a Church on the site goes back to the 9th Century, but the church we see today is of Saxon origin and stands near the head of the tidal estuary of the River Yar. The late Saxon church had an aisle-less nave and some of the quoins at its north west and south west angles have survived and are visible from inside. At the end of the 12th Century, aisles with three-bay arcades were added to the Saxon nave, and chapels were created to the north and south of the original chancel.	website:weak
