1 Sedan detta så skedt war, begaf sig, at HERrans ord i en syn kom til Abram, sägandes: Frukta dig intet, Abram, jag är ditt beskärm och din ganska stora lön. After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
2 Men Abram sade ytterligare: Men mig hafwer du ingen säd gifwit. Och si, mins tjenares son skall wara min arfwinge. And Abram said, Lord God, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?
3 — And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir.
4 Och si, HERrans ord kom til honom, sägandes: Han skall icke wara din arfwinge, utan den, som utaf ditt lif komma skall, han skall wara din arfwinge. And, behold, the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.
5 Och han hade honom ut, och sade: Se up til himmelen, och räkna stjernorna, om du kan räkna dem. Och sade til honom: Så skall din säd wara. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.
6 Abram trodde HERranom, och han räknade honom det til rättfärdighet. And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
7 Och han sade til honom: Jag är HERren, som dig utfört hafwer ifrån Ur utu Chaldeen, at jag dig detta land gifwa skall til besittning. And he said unto him, I am the Lord that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.
8 Abram sade: HErre, HERre, hwaruppå skall jag märka, at jag skall besitta det? And he said, Lord God, whereby shall I know that I shall inherit it?
9 Och han sade til honom: Tag mig ena treåra ko, och ena treåra get, och en treåra wädur, och ena turturdufwo, och ena unga dufwo. And he said unto him, Take me an heifer of three years old, and a she goat of three years old, and a ram of three years old, and a turtledove, and a young pigeon.
10 Och han tog allt detta, och delade det midt i tu ifrå hwart annat, och lade hwar delen twärt emot den andra: Men foglarne delade han intet. And he took unto him all these, and divided them in the midst, and laid each piece one against another: but the birds divided he not.
11 Och foglarne kommo neder på kropparna, och Abram dref bort dem. And when the fowls came down upon the carcases, Abram drove them away.
12 Då solen nedergången war, föll en swår sömn på Abram, och si, en förskräckelse och et stort mörker kom öfwer honom. And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13 Då sade han til Abram: Detta skalt du weta, at din säd skall warda främmande uti et land, det dem icke tilhörer, och man skall der göra dem til trälar och fara illa med dem i fyrahundrade år. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 Men öfwer det folk, som de tjenande warda, skall jag domare wara: Sedan skola de draga ut med stora håfwor. And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge: and afterward shall they come out with great substance.
15 Och du skalt fara til dina fäder med frid, och i en god ålder begrafwen warda. And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age.
16 Men de skola i fjerde mans ålder komma hit igen; förty de Amoreers ondska är icke ännu all fullkomnad. But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.
17 Då nu solen war nedergången, och mörker wordet, si, då rök en ugn, och en eld for emellan stycken. And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 På den dagen gjorde HERren et förbund med Abram, och sade: Dine säd skall jag gifwa detta landet, ifrå den älfwene i Egypten, allt intil den stora älfwen Phrath: In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:
19 De Keneer, de Keniseer, de Kadmoneer, The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20 De Hetheer, de Phereseer, de Reser, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 De Amoreer, de Cananeer, de Girgaseer, de Jebuseer. And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.
