1 Era entonces toda la tierra de una lengua, y de unas mismas palabras. And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2 Y aconteció, que como se partieron de oriente, hallaron campo en la tierra de Sennaar, y asentaron allí. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3 Y dijeron los unos a los otros: Dad acá, hagamos ladrillo, y cozámoslo con fuego. Y fuéles el ladrillo en lugar de piedra, y el betún en lugar de mezcla. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4 Y dijeron: Dad acá: Edifiquémosnos una ciudad, y una torre, que tenga la cabeza en el cielo: y hagámosnos nombrados; por ventura nos esparciremos sobre la haz de toda la tierra. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5 ¶ Y descendió Jehová para ver la ciudad y la torre, que edificaban los hijos del hombre. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
6 Y dijo Jehová: He aquí, el pueblo es uno, y todos estos tienen un lenguaje, y ahora comienzan a hacer, y ahora no dejarán de ejecutar todo lo que han pensado hacer. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
7 Ahora pues, descendamos, y mezclemos allí sus lenguas, que ninguno entienda la lengua de su compañero. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.
8 Así los esparció Jehová de allí sobre la haz de toda la tierra, y dejaron de edificar la ciudad. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9 Por esto fue llamado el nombre de ella Babel, porque allí mezcló Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y de allí los esparció sobre la haz de toda la tierra. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10 ¶ Estas son las generaciones de Sem: Sem de edad de cien años engendró a Arfajad, dos años después del diluvio. These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:
11 Y vivió Sem, después que engendró a Arfajad, quinientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
12 Y Arfajad vivió treinta y cinco años, y engendró a Sale. And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah:
13 Y vivió Arfajad, después que engendró a Sale, cuatrocientos y tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
14 Y vivió Sale treinta años, y engendró a Jeber. And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:
15 Y vivió Sale, después que engendró a Jeber, cuatrocientos y tres años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.
16 Y vivió Jeber treinta y cuatro años, y engendró a Faleg. And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:
17 Y vivió Jeber, después que engendró a Faleg, cuatrocientos y treinta años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.
18 Y vivió Faleg treinta años, y engendró a Reu. And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:
19 Y vivió Faleg, después que engendró a Reu, doscientos y nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.
20 Y Reu vivió treinta y dos años, y engendró a Sarug. And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:
21 Y vivió Reu, después que engendró a Sarug, doscientos y siete años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.
22 Y vivió Sarug treinta años, y engendró a Nacor. And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:
23 Y vivió Sarug, después que engendró a Nacor, doscientos años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.
24 Y vivió Nacor veinte y nueve años, y engendró a Tare. And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:
25 Y vivió Nacor, después que engendró a Tare, ciento y diez y nueve años, y engendró hijos e hijas. And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.
26 Y vivió Tare setenta años, y engendró a Abram, a Nacor, y a Arán. And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
27 Y estas son las generaciones de Tare. Tare engendró a Abram, y a Nacor, y a Arán; y Arán engendró a Lot. Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.
28 Y murió Arán antes de su padre Tare, en la tierra de su naturaleza, en Ur de los Caldeos. And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.
29 Y tomaron Abram y Nacor para sí mujeres: el nombre de la mujer de Abram fue Sarai, y el nombre de la mujer de Nacor, Melca, hija de Arán, padre de Melca, y padre de Jesca. And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30 Y Sarai fue estéril, que no tenía hijo. But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31 ¶ Y tomó Tare a Abram su hijo, y a Lot hijo de Arán, hijo de su hijo, y a Sarai su nuera, mujer de Abram su hijo: y salió con ellos de Ur de los Caldeos, para ir a la tierra de Canaán: y vinieron hasta Harán: y asentaron allí. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32 Y fueron los días de Tare doscientos y cinco años, y murió Tare en Harán. And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
