1 Ciertamente la plata tiene su oculto nacimiento, y el oro lugar de donde lo sacan. Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
2 El hierro es tomado del polvo, y de la piedra es fundido el metal. Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
3 A las tinieblas puso término, y a toda obra perfecta que él hizo puso piedra de oscuridad y de sombra de muerte. He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
4 Sale el río junto al morador; y las aguas sin pie, más altas que el hombre, se fueron. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
5 Tierra de la cual saldrá pan, y debajo de ella estará como convertida en fuego. As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
6 Lugar que sus piedras serán zafiros, y tendrá polvos de oro. The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold.
7 Senda que nunca la conoció ave, ni ojo de buitre la vio. There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture’s eye hath not seen:
8 Nunca la pisaron animales fieros, ni pasó por ella león. The lion’s whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
9 En el pedernal puso su mano, y trastornó los montes de raíz. He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
10 De los peñascos cortó ríos, y todo lo precioso vio su ojo. He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
11 Los ríos detuvo en su nacimiento, y lo escondido hizo salir a luz. He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
12 ¶ ¿Mas la sabiduría, donde se hallará? ¿y el lugar de la prudencia, donde está? But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
13 Nunca el hombre supo su valor, ni se halla en la tierra de los vivientes. Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
14 El abismo dice: No está en mí: y la mar dijo: Ni conmigo. The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
15 No se dará por oro, ni su precio será a peso de plata. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
16 No es apreciada con oro de Ofir, ni con ónix precioso, ni con zafiro. It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
17 El oro no se le igualará, ni el diamante; ni se trocará por vaso de oro fino. The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
18 De coral, ni de gabis, no se hará mención: la sabiduría es mejor que piedras preciosas. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
19 No se igualará con ella esmeralda de Etiopía: no se podrá apreciar con oro fino. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
20 ¿De dónde, pues, vendrá la sabiduría? ¿y dónde está el lugar de la inteligencia? Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
21 Pues es encubierta a los ojos de todo viviente, y a toda ave del cielo es oculta. Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
22 La perdición y la muerte dijeron: Su fama hemos escuchado con nuestros oídos. Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
23 Dios entendió su camino, y él solo conoció su lugar. God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
24 Porque él mira hasta los fines de la tierra, y ve debajo de todo el cielo: For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
25 Haciendo peso al viento, y poniendo las aguas por medida. To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.
26 Cuando él hizo ley a la lluvia, y camino al relámpago de los truenos: When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
27 Entonces la vio él, y la manifestó; la preparó, y también la inquirió. Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
28 Y dijo al hombre: He aquí, que el temor del Señor es la sabiduría; y la inteligencia el apartarse del mal. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
