| 1 | ¿De dónde vienen las guerras, y los pleitos entre vosotros? De aquí, es a saber, de vuestras concupiscencias, las cuales batallan en vuestros miembros. | From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? |
| 2 | Codiciáis, y no tenéis: tenéis envidia y odio, y no podéis alcanzar: combatís y guerreáis, empero no tenéis lo que deseáis, porque no pedís. | Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. |
| 3 | Pedís, y no recibís; porque pedís malamente, para gastar en vuestros deleites. | Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. |
| 4 | Adúlteros y adúlteras, ¿no sabéis que la amistad del mundo es enemistad con Dios? Cualquiera, pues, que quisiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios. | Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. |
| 5 | ¿Pensáis que la Escritura dice sin causa: El espíritu que mora en nosotros, codicia envidiosamente? | Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? |
| 6 | Mas él da mayor gracia. Porque él dice: Dios resiste a los soberbios, empero da gracia a los humildes. | But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. |
| 7 | Sed pues sujetos a Dios: resistíd al diablo, y huirá de vosotros. | Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. |
| 8 | Allegáos a Dios, y él se allegará a vosotros. Pecadores, limpiád las manos; y vosotros de doblado ánimo, purificád los corazones. | Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. |
| 9 | Afligíos, y lamentád, y llorád. Vuestra risa conviértase en lloro, y vuestro gozo en tristeza. | Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. |
| 10 | Humilláos delante de la presencia del Señor, y él os ensalzará. | Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. |
| 11 | Hermanos, no digáis mal los unos de los otros: el que dice mal de su hermano, y juzga a su hermano, este tal dice mal de la ley, y juzga a la ley; mas si tú juzgas a la ley, no eres guardador de la ley, sino juez. | Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. |
| 12 | Solo uno es el dador de la ley, que puede salvar, y perder: ¿Quién eres tú que juzgas a otro? | There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another? |
| 13 | Ea ahora, vosotros los que decís: Vamos hoy y mañana a tal ciudad, y estaremos allá un año, y compraremos mercadería, y ganarémos: | Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: |
| 14 | Vosotros que no sabéis lo que será mañana. Porque, ¿qué es vuestra vida? Ciertamente es un vapor que se aparece por un poco de tiempo, y después se desvanece. | Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. |
| 15 | En lugar de lo cual deberíais decir: Si el Señor quisiere, y si viviéremos, haremos esto o aquello. | For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. |
| 16 | Mas ahora triunfáis en vuestras soberbias. Toda gloria semejante es mala. | But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. |
| 17 | El pecado, pues, está en aquel que sabe hacer lo bueno, y no lo hace. | Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. |
