1 ¡Oh quién te me diese, como hermano, que mamaste los pechos de mi madre! ¡Qué te hallase yo fuera, y te besase, y que no te menospreciasen! O that thou wert as my brother, that sucked the breasts of my mother! when I should find thee without, I would kiss thee; yea, I should not be despised.
2 ¡Qué yo te llevase, que yo te metiese en casa de mi madre: que me enseñases, que te hiciese beber vino adobado, del mosto de mis granadas! I would lead thee, and bring thee into my mother’s house, who would instruct me: I would cause thee to drink of spiced wine of the juice of my pomegranate.
3 Su izquierda esté debajo de mi cabeza, y su derecha me abrace. His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.
4 Yo os conjuro, o! hijas de Jerusalem, ¿por qué despertaréis, y por qué haréis velar al amor, hasta que él quiera? I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, until he please.
5 ¿Quién es esta, que sube del desierto recostada sobre su amado? Debajo de un manzano te desperté: allí tuvo dolores de ti tu madre; allí tuvo dolores la que te parió. Who is this that cometh up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I raised thee up under the apple tree: there thy mother brought thee forth: there she brought thee forth that bare thee.
6 Pónme, como un sello, sobre tu corazón, como un signo sobre tu brazo; porque fuerte es como la muerte el amor: duro como el sepulcro el celo: sus brasas, brasas de fuego, llama fuerte. Set me as a seal upon thine heart, as a seal upon thine arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which hath a most vehement flame.
7 Las muchas aguas no podrán apagar al amor: ni los ríos le cubrirán. Si diese hombre toda la hacienda de su casa por este amor, menospreciando la menospreciarán. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be contemned.
8 Tenemos una pequeña hermana, que no tiene aun pechos: ¿qué haremos a nuestra hermana, cuando de ella se hablare? We have a little sister, and she hath no breasts: what shall we do for our sister in the day when she shall be spoken for?
9 Si ella es muro, edificaremos sobre él un palacio de plata. Y si fuere puerta, guarnecerla hemos con tablas de cedro. If she be a wall, we will build upon her a palace of silver: and if she be a door, we will inclose her with boards of cedar.
10 Yo soy muro, y mis pechos son como torres desde que yo fui en sus ojos como la que halla paz. I am a wall, and my breasts like towers: then was I in his eyes as one that found favour.
11 Salomón tuvo una viña en Baal-hamón, la cual entregó a guardas: cada uno de los cuales traerá mil piezas de plata por su fruto. Solomon had a vineyard at Baal–hamon; he let out the vineyard unto keepers; every one for the fruit thereof was to bring a thousand pieces of silver.
12 Mi viña, que es mía delante de mí: las mil piezas serán tuyas, o! Salomón; y doscientas, de los que guardan su fruto. My vineyard, which is mine, is before me: thou, O Solomon, must have a thousand, and those that keep the fruit thereof two hundred.
13 ¡Ah la que estás en los huertos! los compañeros escuchan tu voz: házme oír. Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it.
14 Huye, o! amado mío, y sé semejante al gamo, o al cervatillo de los ciervos, a las montañas de las especias. Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices.
