| 1 | Toda alma sea sujeta a las potestades superiores; porque no hay potestad sino de Dios: las potestades que son, de Dios son ordenadas. | Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. |
| 2 | Así que el que se opone a la potestad, al orden de Dios resiste; y los que resisten, ellos mismos recibirán condenación para sí. | Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. |
| 3 | Porque los magistrados no son para temor de las buenas obras, sino de las malas. ¿Quieres pues no temer la potestad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás alabanza de ella; | For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: |
| 4 | Porque te es el ministro de Dios para bien. Mas si hicieres lo malo, teme; porque no sin causa trae la espada, porque es el ministro de Dios, vengador para ejecutar su ira al que hace lo malo. | For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. |
| 5 | Por lo cual es necesario que le seáis sujetos: no solamente por motivo de la ira, mas aun por la conciencia. | Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. |
| 6 | Porque por esto les pagáis también los tributos; porque son ministros de Dios que sirven a esto mismo. | For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. |
| 7 | Pagád pues a todos lo que debéis: al que tributo, tributo: al que impuesto, impuesto: al que temor, temor: al que honra, honra. | Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. |
| 8 | ¶ No debáis a nadie nada, sino que os améis unos a otros; porque el que ama al prójimo, cumplió la ley. | Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. |
| 9 | Porque esto: No adulterarás: no matarás: no hurtarás: no dirás falso testimonio: no codiciarás; y si hay algún otro mandamiento, en esta palabra se comprende sumariamente: Amarás a tu prójimo, como a ti mismo. | For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. |
| 10 | El amor no hace mal al prójimo, así que el amor es el cumplimiento de la ley. | Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. |
| 11 | Y esto, conociendo el tiempo, que es ya hora de levantarnos del sueño; porque ahora nos esta más cerca nuestra salvación, que cuando creíamos. | And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. |
| 12 | La noche ya pasa, y el día va llegando: desechemos pues las obras de las tinieblas, y vistámonos las armas de luz. | The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. |
| 13 | Andemos honestamente, como de día: no en glotonerías y borracheras, no en lechos y disoluciones, no en pendencias y envidia: | Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. |
| 14 | Mas vestíos del Señor Jesu Cristo; y no penséis en la carne para cumplir sus deseos. | But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. |
