1 Empero en cuanto a lo que a los ídolos es sacrificado, sabemos que todos tenemos ciencia. La ciencia hincha, mas la caridad edifica. Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2 Y si alguno se piensa que sabe algo, aun no sabe cosa alguna como le conviene saber. And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 Mas el que ama a Dios, el tal es conocido de Dios. But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 Así que de las viandas que son sacrificadas a los ídolos, sabemos que el ídolo nada es en el mundo, y que no hay otro Dios, sino solo uno. As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5 Porque aunque haya algunos que se llamen dioses, o en el cielo, o en la tierra, (como hay muchos dioses, y muchos señores,) For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6 Para nosotros empero hay un solo Dios, el Padre, del cual son todas las cosas, y nosotros en él; y un Señor, Jesu Cristo, por el cual son todas las cosas, y nosotros por él. But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 Mas no en todos hay esta ciencia; porque algunos con conciencia del ídolo hasta ahora, lo comen como sacrificado a ídolos; y su conciencia, siendo flaca, es contaminada. Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8 Empero la vianda no nos hace mas aceptos a Dios; porque ni que comamos, seremos más ricos: ni que no comamos, seremos más pobres. But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9 Mas mirád que esta vuestra libertad no sea de algún modo tropezadero para los que son flacos. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10 Porque si te ve alguno, a ti que tienes esta ciencia, que estás sentado a la mesa en el lugar de los ídolos, ¿la conciencia de aquel que es flaco, no será edificada para comer de lo sacrificado a los ídolos? For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11 ¿Y por tu ciencia se perderá el hermano flaco, por el cual Cristo murió? And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12 De esta manera, pues, pecando contra los hermanos, e hiriendo su flaca conciencia, contra Cristo pecáis. But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13 Por lo cual si la comida es para mi hermano ocasión de caer, no comeré carne jamás por no hacer caer a mi hermano. Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
