1	여호사밧이 유다의 왕이 되다 아사의 아들 여호사밧이 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다. 그는 이스라엘을 막으려고 국방을 튼튼하게 하였다.	And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
2	그는 요새화된 유다의 모든 성읍에 군대를 배치하였고, 유다 전국과 그의 아버지 아사가 정복한 에브라임 여러 성읍에 수비대를 배치하였다.	And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
3	여호사밧이 왕이 되면서부터, 그의 조상 다윗이 걸어 간 그 길을 따랐으므로, 주께서 여호사밧과 함께 계셨다. 여호사밧은 바알 신들을 찾지 아니하고,	And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;
4	다만 그의 아버지가 섬긴 하나님을 찾으며, 그 하나님의 계명을 따라 살고, 이스라엘 사람의 행위를 따르지 않았으므로,	But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
5	주께서는 여호사밧이 다스리는 나라를 굳건하게 해주셨다. 온 유다 백성이 여호사밧에게 선물을 바치니, 그의 부귀와 영광이 대단하였다.	Therefore the Lord stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
6	그는 오직 주께서 가리키는 길로만 가기로 다짐하고, 유다에서 산당과 아세라 목상을 없애 버렸다.	And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the Lord: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
7	그는 왕이 된 지 삼 년째 되는 해에, 지도자들인 벤하일과 오바댜와 스가랴와 느다넬과 미가야를 유다 여러 성읍에 보내어, 백성을 가르치게 하였다.	Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben–hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
8	그들과 함께 레위 사람들, 곧 스마야와 느다냐와 스바댜와 아사헬과 스미라못과 여호나단과 아도니야와 도비야와 도바도니야, 이런 레위 사람들을 보내고, 또 그들과 함께 제사장 엘리사마와 여호람을 보냈다.	And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob–adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
9	그들은 주의 율법책을 가지고 유다 전국을 돌면서 백성을 가르쳤다. 그들은 유다의 모든 성읍을 다 돌면서 백성을 가르쳤다.	And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the Lord with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
10	여호사밧의 위대성 유다의 주위에 있는 모든 나라는 유다를 보호하시는 주님이 두려워서, 감히 여호사밧에게 싸움을 걸지 못하였다.	And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
11	어떤 블레셋 사람들은 여호사밧에게 조공으로 예물을 바쳤고, 아라비아 사람들은 짐승 떼, 곧 숫양 칠천칠백 마리와 숫염소 칠천칠백 마리를 바쳤다.	Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
12	여호사밧은 세력이 점점 커졌다. 그는 유다 안에 요새들을 세우고, 양곡 저장 성읍들을 세웠다.	And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
13	이렇게 그는 유다 여러 성읍에 많은 일을 하여 놓았고, 예루살렘에는 전투 병력과 용사들을 배치하였다.	And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.
14	가문별로 병적에 오른 수는 다음과 같다. 유다 가문에 속한 천부장 가운데서는 천부장 아드나가 으뜸이 되어, 용사 삼십만 명을 거느렸고,	And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.
15	다음으로는 여호하난이 이십팔만 명을 거느렸고,	And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.
16	그 다음으로는 주님을 위하여 자원하여 나선 시그리의 아들 아마시야가 용사 이십만 명을 거느렸다.	And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the Lord; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.
17	베냐민 가문에서는 용장 엘리아다가 활과 방패를 잡은 사람 이십만 명을 거느렸고,	And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
18	다음으로는 여호사밧이 무장한 병사 십팔만을 거느렸다.	And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.
19	이들은 모두 왕을 모시는 군인들이었다. 왕은 이 밖에도 유다 전역 요새에다가 군인들을 배치하였다.	These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
