1	이집트의 유다 침략(왕상 14:25-28) 르호보암은 왕위가 튼튼해지고 세력이 커지자, 주의 율법을 저버렸다. 온 이스라엘도 그를 본받게 되었다.	And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
2	그들이 주께 범죄한 결과로, 르호보암 왕이 즉위한 지 오 년째 되던 해에, 이집트의 시삭 왕이 예루살렘을 치러 올라왔다.	And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the Lord,
3	그는 병거 천이백 대, 기병 육만 명, 거기에다가 이루 헤아릴 수 없이 많은 리비아와 숩과 에티오피아 군대를 이끌고 이집트에서 쳐들어 왔다.	With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
4	시삭은 유다 지방의 요새 성읍들을 점령하고, 예루살렘까지 진군하여 왔다.	And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
5	그 때에 유다 지도자들이 시삭에게 쫓겨 예루살렘에 모여 있었는데, 스마야 예언자가 르호보암과 지도자들을 찾아 와서 말하였다. "주께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. '너희가 나를 버렸으니, 나도 너희를 버려, 시삭의 손에 내주겠다.'"	Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
6	그러자 이스라엘 지도자들과 왕은 자신들의 잘못을 뉘우치고 "주께서는 공의로우십니다" 하고 고백하였다.	Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The Lord is righteous.
7	주께서는, 그들이 이렇게 잘못을 뉘우치는 것을 보시고, 다시 스마야에게 말씀을 내리셨다. "이렇게 잘못을 뉘우치니, 내가 그들을 멸하지는 않겠으나, 그들이 구원을 받기는 해도 아주 가까스로 구원을 받게 하겠다. 내가 내 분노를, 시삭을 시켜서 예루살렘에 다 쏟지는 않겠으나,	And when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8	그들이 시삭의 종이 되어 보아야, 나를 섬기는 것과 세상 나라들을 섬기는 것이 어떻게 다른지 깨닫게 될 것이다."	Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
9	이집트의 시삭 왕이 예루살렘을 치러 올라와서, 주의 성전 보물과 왕실 보물을 하나도 남기지 않고 다 털어 갔다. 솔로몬이 만든 금방패들도 가져 갔다.	So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king’s house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
10	그래서 르호보암 왕은 금방패 대신에 놋방패들을 만들어서, 대궐 문을 지키는 경호 책임자들에게 주었다.	Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
11	왕이 주의 성전에 들어갈 때마다 경호원들은 그 놋방패를 들고 가서 경호하다가, 다시 경호실로 가져 오곤 하였다.	And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
12	르호보암이 잘못을 뉘우쳤기 때문에, 주께서는 그에게서 진노를 거두시고, 그를 완전히 멸하지는 않으셨다. 그래서 유다 나라는 형편이 좋아졌다.	And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
13	르호보암의 통치 개요 이렇게 하여, 르호보암 왕은 예루살렘에서 세력을 굳혀 왕의 직무를 수행하였다. 르호보암이 왕위에 올랐을 때에, 그는, 마흔한 살이었다. 그는 주께서 이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데서 택하여 당신의 이름을 두신 도성 예루살렘에서 십칠 년간 다스렸다. 르호보암의 어머니 나아마는 암몬 사람이다.	So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother’s name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
14	르호보암은 주의 뜻을 찾는 일에 마음을 쓰지 않고, 악한 일을 하였다.	And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord.
15	르호보암의 행적은 처음부터 끝까지, '스마야 예언자의 역사책'과 '잇도 선견자의 역사책'에 기록되어 있다. 르호보암과 여로보암은 사는 날 동안, 그들은 늘 싸웠다.	Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
16	르호보암이 죽어서 '다윗 성'에 안장되자, 그의 아들 아비야가 그의 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.	And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
