1	이스라엘 백성이 요단 강을 건너다 여호수아는 아침 일찍 일어나, 모든 이스라엘 자손과 함께 싯딤을 떠나 요단 강까지 왔다. 그들은 강을 건너기 전에 그 곳에 진을 쳤다.	And Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from Shittim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.
2	사흘 뒤에 지휘관들이 진을 두루 다니며,	And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host;
3	백성에게 명령하였다. "너희는, 레위 사람 제사장들이 주 너희 하나님의 언약궤를 들어서 메는 것을 보거든, 진을 철수하여 제사장들의 뒤를 따라라.	And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.
4	너희가 이전에 가 보지 않았던 길을 가기 때문에, 제사장들이 너희가 가는 길을 안내할 것이다. 그러나 너희와 언약궤 사이는, 이천 보쯤의 거리를 띄우고, 그 궤에 가까이 가지 말아라."	Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore.
5	여호수아가 백성에게 말하였다. "너희는 자신을 성결하게 하여라. 주께서 내일 너희 가운데서 놀라운 일을 이루실 것이다."	And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the Lord will do wonders among you.
6	여호수아가 제사장들에게 언약궤를 메고 백성보다 앞서 건너가라고 명령하자, 그들은 언약궤를 메고 백성들 앞에서 나아갔다.	And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.
7	주께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "바로 오늘부터, 내가 너를 모든 이스라엘 사람이 보는 앞에서 위대한 지도자로 세우고, 내가 모세와 함께 있던 것처럼 너와 함께 있다는 사실을 그들이 알게 하겠다.	And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
8	이제 너는 언약궤를 멘 제사장들에게, 요단 강의 물 가에 이르거든 요단 강에 들어가서 서 있으라고 하여라."	And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan.
9	여호수아가 이스라엘 자손에게 말하였다. "이 곳으로 와서, 주 너희 하나님의 말씀을 들어라."	And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, Come hither, and hear the words of the Lord your God.
10	여호수아가 말을 계속하였다. "이제 이루어질 이 일을 보고, 너희는, 살아 계신 하나님이 너희 가운데 계셔서, 가나안 사람과 헷 사람과 히위 사람과 브리스 사람과 기르가스 사람과 아모리 사람과 여부스 사람을 너희 앞에서 쫓아내신다는 것을 알게 될 것이다.	And Joshua said, Hereby ye shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
11	온 땅의 주권자이신 주의 언약궤가 너희 앞에서 요단 강을 건널 것이다.	Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passeth over before you into Jordan.
12	이제 이스라엘의 각 지파마다 한 사람씩 열두 사람을 뽑아라.	Now therefore take you twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, out of every tribe a man.
13	온 땅의 주권자이신 주의 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발바닥이 요단 강 물에 닿으면, 요단 강 물, 곧 위에서부터 흘러 내리던 물줄기가 끊기고, 둑이 생기어 물이 고일 것이다."	And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the waters of Jordan shall be cut off from the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand upon an heap.
14	백성이 요단 강을 건너려고 자기들의 진을 떠날 때에, 언약궤를 멘 제사장들이 백성 앞에서 나아갔다.	And it came to pass, when the people removed from their tents, to pass over Jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people;
15	그 궤를 멘 사람들이 요단 강까지 왔을 때에는, 마침 추수기간이어서 제방까지 물이 가득 차 올랐다. 그 궤를 멘 제사장들의 발이 요단 물 가에 닿았을 때에,	And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)
16	위에서부터 흐르던 물이 멈추었다. 그리고 멀리 사르단 근처의 아담 성읍에 둑이 생겨, 아라바의 바다 곧 사해로 흘러가는 물줄기가 완전히 끊겼다. 그래서 백성들은 여리고 맞은쪽으로 건너갈 수 있었다.	That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.
17	온 이스라엘 백성이 마른 땅을 밟고 건너서, 온 백성이 모두 요단 강을 건널 때까지, 주의 언약궤를 멘 제사장들은 요단 강 가운데의 마른 땅 위에 튼튼하게 서 있었다.	And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
