1	느헤미야가 예루살렘을 두고 기도하다 하가랴의 아들 느헤미야가 한 말이다.이십년 기슬르월, 내가 도성 수산에 있을 때에,	The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
2	나의 형제 가운데 하나인 하나니가 다른 사람들과 함께 유다에서 왔기에, 이리로 사로잡혀 오지 않고, 그 곳에 남아 있는 유다 사람들은 어떠한지, 예루살렘의 형편은 어떠한지를 물어 보았다.	That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
3	그들이 나에게 대답하였다. "사로잡혀 오지 않고 그 지방에 남은 사람들은, 거기에서 고생이 아주 심합니다. 업신여김을 받습니다. 예루살렘 성벽은 허물어지고, 성문들은 다 불에 탔습니다."	And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
4	이 말을 듣고서, 나는 주저앉아서 울었다. 나는 슬픔에 잠긴 채로 며칠 동안 금식하면서, 하늘의 하나님께 기도하여	And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
5	아뢰었다.주 하늘의 하나님, 위대하고 두려운 하나님, 주를 사랑하는 이들과 세운 언약, 주의 계명을 지키는 이들과 세운 언약을 지키시며 은혜를 베푸시는 하나님,	And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
6	이제, 이 종이 밤낮 주 앞에서 주의 종 이스라엘 자손을 위하여 드리는 이 기도에 귀를 기울이시고, 살펴 주십시오. 우리 이스라엘 자손이 주를 거역하는 죄를 지은 것을 자복합니다. 저와 저의 집안까지도 죄를 지었습니다.	Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
7	우리가 주께 매우 큰 잘못을 저질렀습니다. 주의 종 모세를 시키시어, 우리에게 내리신 계명과 율례와 규례를 우리가 지키지 않았습니다.	We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
8	주의 종 모세를 시키시어 하신 말씀을 기억하여 주십시오. 우리가 죄를 지으면, 주께서 우리를 여러 나라에 흩어 버리겠지만	Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
9	우리가 주께로 돌아와서, 주의 계명을 지키고 실천하면, 쫓겨난 우리가 하늘 끝에 가 있을지라도, 주께서 거기에서 우리를 한데 모아서, 주의 이름을 두려고 택한 곳으로 돌아가게 하겠다고 하신 그 말씀을, 이제 기억하여 주십시오.	But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
10	이들은 주께서 크신 힘과 강한 팔로 건져내신 주의 종이며, 주의 백성입니다.	Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
11	주님, 종의 간구를 들어주십시오. 주의 이름을 진심으로 두려워하는 주의 종들의 간구에 귀를 기울여 주십시오. 이제 주의 종이 하는 모든 일을 형통하게 하여 주시고 왕에게 자비를 입게 하여 주십시오.그 때에 나는 왕에게 술잔을 받들어 올리는 일을 맡아 보고 있었다.	O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.
