1	예수의 탄생(마 1:18-25) 그 때에 아우구스투스 황제가 칙령을 내려서 온 세계가 호적등록을 하게 되었는데,	And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2	이 첫 번째 호적등록은 구레뇨가 시리아의 총독으로 있을 때에 시행한 것이다.	(And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3	모든 사람이 호적등록을 하러 저마다 자기 동네로 갔다.	And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4	요셉은 다윗 가문의 자손이므로, 갈릴리의 나사렛 동네에서 유대에 있는 베들레헴이라 하는 다윗의 동네로,	And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5	자기의 약혼자인 마리아와 함께 등록하러 올라갔다. 그 때에 마리아는 임신중이었는데,	To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6	그들이 거기에 머물러 있는 동안에, 마리아가 해산할 날이 되었다.	And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7	마리아가 첫 아들을 낳아, 포대기에 싸서, 구유에 눕혀 두었다. 여관에는 그들이 들어갈 방이 없었기 때문이다.	And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8	목자들이 예수 탄생의 소식을 듣다 그 지역의 목자들이 들에서 밤을 새우면서, 자기들의 양 떼를 지키고 있었는데,	And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9	주의 천사가 그들에게 나타나고, 주의 영광이 그들에게 두루 비치었다. 그들은 몹시 두려워하였다.	And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10	천사가 그들에게 말하였다. "두려워하지 말아라. 나는 온 백성에게 큰 기쁨이 될 소식을 너희에게 전해 준다.	And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11	오늘 다윗의 동네에서 너희에게 구주가 나셨으니, 그는 곧 그리스도 주님이시다.	For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12	너희는 갓난아기가 포대기에 싸여, 구유에 뉘어 있는 것을 볼 터인데, 이것이 너희에게 주는 표적이다."	And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13	갑자기 그 천사와 더불어 많은 하늘 군대가 나타나서, 하나님을 찬양하여 말하였다.	And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14	"가장 높은 곳에서는 하나님께 영광이요, 땅에서는 주께서 기뻐하시는 사람들에게 평화로다."	Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15	천사들이 목자들에게서 떠나 하늘로 올라간 뒤에, 목자들이 서로 말하기를 "베들레헴으로 가서, 주께서 우리에게 알려 주신 바, 일어난 그 일을 봅시다" 하였다.	And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16	그래서 그들은 급히 달려가서, 마리아와 요셉과 구유에 누워 있는 아기를 찾아냈다.	And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17	그들은 아기를 보고 나서, 이 아기에 관하여 자기들이 들은 말을 그들에게 알려 주었다.	And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18	사람들은 목자들이 그들에게 전하는 말을 듣고 모두 이상히 여겼으나,	And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19	마리아는 이 모든 말을 고이 간직하고 마음 속에 곰곰이 되새겼다.	But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20	목자들은 듣고 본 것이 다 자기들에게 일러주신 것과 같았기 때문에, 하나님께 영광을 돌리며, 찬미하면서 돌아갔다.	And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
21	여드레가 차서, 아기에게 할례를 행할 때에, 그 이름을 예수라고 하였다. 그것은, 아기가 수태되기 전에, 천사가 일러준 이름이다.	And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
22	아기 예수의 정결예식 모세의 법대로 마리아와 요셉이 정결예식을 행하는 기간이 다 된 후에 그들은 아기를 주께 드리려고 예루살렘으로 데리고 올라갔다.	And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;
23	그것은 주의 율법에 "어머니의 태를 처음 여는 남자 아이마다, 주의 거룩한 사람으로 불릴 것이다"라고 기록된 대로 한 것이요,	(As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)
24	또 주의 율법에 "산비둘기 한 쌍이나, 어린 집비둘기 두 마리를 드려야 한다"고 이르신 대로 희생제물을 드리려는 것이었다.	And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.
25	그런데 마침 예루살렘에 시므온이라는 사람이 있었는데, 그 사람은 의롭고 경건한 사람이므로, 이스라엘이 받을 위로를 기다리고 있었고, 또 성령이 그에게 임하여 있었다.	And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
26	그는 주께서 보내시는 그리스도를 보기 전에는 죽지 않을 것이라는 성령의 지시를 받은 사람이다.	And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
27	그가 성령의 인도로 성전 안에 들어갔을 때에, 마침 아기의 부모가 율법이 정한 대로 행하고자 하여, 아기 예수를 데리고 들어왔다.	And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
28	시므온이 아기를 자기 팔에 받아서 안고, 하나님을 찬양하여 말하였다.	Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
29	"주님, 이제 주께서는 주의 말씀을 따라, 이 종이 세상에서 평안히 떠나갈 수 있게 해주셨습니다.	Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30	내 눈이 주의 구원을 보았습니다.	For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31	주께서 이것을 모든 백성 앞에 마련하셨으니,	Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32	이것은 이방 사람들에게는 계시하시는 빛이요, 주의 백성 이스라엘에게는 영광입니다."	A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33	아기의 아버지와 어머니는, 시므온이 아기에 대하여 하는 이 말을 듣고서, 이상하게 여겼다.	And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
34	시므온은 그들을 축복한 뒤에, 아기의 어머니 마리아에게 말하였다. "보십시오, 이 아기는 이스라엘 가운데 많은 사람을 넘어지게도 하고 일어나게도 하도록 세우심을 받았으며, 비방을 받는 표징으로 세우심을 받았습니다.	And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;
35	-그리고 칼이 당신의 마음을 꿰뚫을 것입니다.- 이것은 많은 사람의 마음에 품은 생각들을 드러내시려는 것입니다."	(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
36	아셀 지파에 속하는 바누엘의 딸로 안나라는 여예언자가 있었는데, 나이가 많았다. 그는 결혼하여 일곱 해를 남편과 함께 살다가,	And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
37	과부가 되어서, 여든네 살이 되도록 성전을 떠나지 않고, 밤낮으로 금식과 기도로 하나님을 섬겨 왔다.	And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
38	바로 이 때에 그가 다가서서 하나님께 감사를 드리고, 예루살렘의 속량을 기다리는 모든 사람에게 이 아기에 대하여 이야기해 주었다.	And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
39	나사렛으로 돌아오다 아기의 부모는 주의 율법에 규정된 모든 일을 마치고 나서, 갈릴리에 있는 자기네 고향 동네 나사렛에 돌아왔다.	And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
40	아기는 자라며 튼튼해지고, 지혜로 가득찼고, 하나님의 은총을 받고 있었다.	And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41	소년 시절의 예수 예수의 부모는 해마다 유월절에는 예루살렘에 갔다.	Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42	예수가 열두 살이 되는 해에도 그들은 절기관습을 따라 유월절을 지키러 올라갔다.	And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43	그런데 그들이 절기를 마치고 돌아올 때에, 소년 예수는 예루살렘에 그대로 머물러 있었는데, 그의 부모는 이것을 모르고,	And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44	일행 가운데 있으려니 생각하고 하룻길을 간 다음에, 비로소 그들의 친척들과 친지들 가운데서 그를 찾다가	But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45	찾지 못하였으므로, 그들은 그를 찾으려고 예루살렘으로 되돌아갔다.	And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46	사흘 뒤에야 그들은 성전에서 예수를 찾았는데, 그는 선생들 가운데 앉아서, 그들의 말을 듣기도 하고, 그들에게 묻기도 하고 있었다.	And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47	그의 말을 듣고 있는 사람들은, 모두 그의 슬기와 대답에 경탄하였다.	And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48	그의 부모는 예수를 보고 놀랐다. 어머니가 예수에게 "얘야, 이게 무슨 일이냐? 네 아버지와 내가 너를 찾느라고 얼마나 애를 태웠는지 모른다" 하고 말하였다.	And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49	예수가 부모에게 말하기를 "어찌하여 나를 찾으셨습니까? 내가 내 아버지의 집에 있어야 할 줄을 알지 못하셨습니까?" 하였다.	And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
50	그러나 부모는 예수가 자기들에게 한 그 말이 무슨 뜻인지를 깨닫지 못하였다.	And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51	예수는 부모와 함께 내려가 나사렛에 돌아와서, 부모에게 순종하면서 지냈다. 예수의 어머니는 이 모든 일을 마음에 간직하였다.	And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52	예수는 지혜와 키가 자라며, 하나님과 사람에게 더욱 사랑을 받았다.	And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
