1	우상에게 바친 제물 우상에게 바친 고기에 관하여 말하겠습니다. 우리는 우리 모두가 지식이 있는 줄로 압니다. 지식은 사람을 교만하게 하고, 사랑은 덕을 세웁니다.	Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
2	자기가 무엇을 안다고 생각하는 사람은, 아직도 그가 마땅히 알아야 할 것을 알지 못하는 사람입니다.	And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3	그러나 하나님을 사랑하는 사람은, 하나님께서 그를 알아 주십니다.	But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4	그런데 우상에게 바친 고기를 먹는 일을 두고 말하면, 우리가 알기로는, 세상에 우상이란 것은 아무것도 아니고, 오직 하나님 한 분 밖에는 신이 없습니다.	As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
5	남들은 신도 많고 주도 많다고 하고, 이른바 신이라는 것들이 하늘에도 있고 땅에도 있다고 하지만,	For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
6	우리에게는 아버지가 되시는 하나님 한 분이 계실 뿐입니다. 만물이 그분에게서 생겼고, 우리는 그분을 위해서 있습니다. 또한 한 분 주님이신 예수 그리스도가 계시니, 만물이 그로 말미암아 있고, 우리도 그로 말미암아 있습니다.	But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7	그러나 누구에게나 다 지식이 있는 것은 아닙니다. 어떤 사람들은 지금까지 우상을 섬기는 습관에 젖어 있어서, 우상에게 바쳤던 제물을 먹을 때에는 자기들이 먹는 고기가 참으로 우상의 것이라고 생각합니다. 그리고 그들의 양심이 약하므로, 그 음식으로 말미암아 자기들이 더러워졌다고 생각합니다.	Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
8	그러나 "우리를 하나님 앞에 내세우는 것은 음식이 아닙니다." 음식을 먹지 않는다고 해서 손해될 것도 없고, 먹는다고 해서 이로울 것도 없습니다.	But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
9	그러나 여러분에게 있는 이 자유가 약한 사람들에게 걸림이 되지 않도록 조심하십시오.	But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
10	어떤 약한 사람이, 지식을 가진 여러분 가운데 누가 우상의 신당에 앉아서 먹는 것을 보면, 그 양심에 용기가 생겨서, 그를 본떠서, 우상에게 바친 고기를 먹게 되지 않겠습니까?	For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
11	그러면 그 약한 신도는 여러분의 지식 때문에 망합니다. 그리스도는 그 약한 신도를 위해서도 죽으셨습니다.	And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
12	이렇게 여러분이 형제자매들에게 죄를 짓고, 그들의 약한 양심을 상하게 하는 것은, 그리스도에게 죄를 짓는 것입니다.	But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
13	그러므로 음식이 나의 형제자매를 걸어서 넘어지게 하는 것이면, 나는 그들 가운데 어느 한 사람이라도 걸려서 넘어지지 않게 하기 위해서, 평생 고기를 먹지 않겠습니다.	Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
