1	스마야의 예언 르호보암이 예루살렘에 이르러, 유다와 베냐민 가문에 동원령을 내려서 정병 십팔만 명을 소집하였다. 그는 이스라엘과 싸워서, 왕국을 다시 르호보암에게 돌리려고 하였다.	And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2	그러나 그 때에, 주님께서 하나님의 사람 스마야에게 말씀하셨다.	But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3	“너는, 솔로몬의 아들 유다의 르호보암 왕과 유다와 베냐민 지방의 온 이스라엘에게 이 말을 전하여라.	Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4	‘나 주가 말한다. 일이 이렇게 된 것은 내가 시킨 것이다. 너희는 올라가지 말아라. 너희의 동족과 싸우지 말고 각자 집으로 돌아가거라.’” 그들은 이러한 주님의 말씀을 듣고, 여로보암을 치러가던 길을 멈추고, 돌아섰다.	Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5	르호보암이 요새를 만들다 르호보암은 예루살렘에 자리잡고 살면서, 유다 지방의 성읍들을 요새로 만들었다.	And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6	베들레헴과 에담과 드고아와	He built even Beth–lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7	벳술과 소고와 아둘람과	And Beth–zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,
8	가드와 마레사와 십과	And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9	아도라임과 라기스와 아세가와	And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10	소라와 아얄론과 헤브론이 그가 유다와 베냐민 지방에 세운 요새 성읍들이었다.	And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.
11	그는 이 요새 성읍들을 강화하고, 거기에 책임자를 임명하고, 양식과 기름과 술을 저장하여 두었다.	And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.
12	각 성읍마다 방패와 창을 마련하여 두어, 성읍들을 크게 강화하였다. 이렇게 유다와 베냐민은 르호보암의 통치하에 들어갔다.	And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
13	제사장들과 레위인들이 유다로 오다 이스라엘 전국에 있던 제사장들과 레위 사람들이 모두 자기들이 살던 지역을 떠나, 르호보암에게로 왔다.	And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
14	레위 사람들이 목장과 소유지를 버리고 유다와 예루살렘으로 온 것은, 여로보암과 그의 아들들이 그들에게 주님을 섬기는 제사장 직분을 수행하지 못하게 하고,	For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:
15	따로 제사장들을 세워서, 여러 산당에서 숫염소 우상과 자기가 만든 송아지 우상을 섬기게 하였기 때문이다.	And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.
16	이 밖에도 이스라엘 모든 지파들 가운데서 주 이스라엘의 하나님의 뜻을 찾기로 마음을 굳힌 이들이, 주 조상의 하나님께 제사를 드리려고, 레위 사람을 따라 예루살렘에 왔다.	And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.
17	그들은 유다 나라를 강하게 하고, 솔로몬의 아들 르호보암의 왕권을 확고하게 하여 주었다. 그러나 그것은 삼 년 동안뿐이었다. 르호보암이 다윗과 솔로몬의 본을 받아 산 것이 삼 년 동안이었기 때문이다.	So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
18	르호보암의 가족 르호보암은 마할랏을 아내로 맞이하였다. 마할랏은 아버지 여리못과 어머니 아비하일 사이에서 태어난 딸이다. 그의 아버지 여리못은 다윗의 아들이고, 그의 어머니 아비하일은 이새의 아들인 엘리압의 딸이다.	And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19	마할랏과의 사이에서 세 아들 여우스와 스마랴와 사함이 태어났다.	Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.
20	그 뒤에 르호보암은 압살롬의 딸 마아가를 아내로 맞아들였는데, 마아가와의 사이에서는 아비야와 앗대와 시사와 슬로밋이 태어났다.	And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21	르호보암은 아내 열여덟 명과 첩 예순 명을 거느렸고, 그들에게서 아들 스물여덟 명과 딸 육십 명을 보았지만, 그는 다른 아내들이나 첩들보다 압살롬의 딸 마아가를 더욱 사랑하였다.	And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
22	르호보암은 마아가의 아들 아비야를 자기의 후계자로 삼을 생각이었으므로, 왕자들 가운데서 서열을 가장 높게 하였다.	And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
23	르호보암은 슬기롭게도, 자기 아들들에게 유다와 베냐민 전 지역과 요새 성읍들을 나누어 맡기고, 양식도 넉넉하게 대어 주었으며, 아내들도 많이 얻어 주었다.	And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
