1	재림의 약속 사랑하는 여러분, 나는 여러분에게 이 두 번째 편지를 쓰고 있습니다. 두 편지로 나는 여러분의 기억을 되살려서, 여러분의 순수한 마음을 일깨우려고 합니다.	This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2	그렇게 해서, 거룩한 예언자들이 이미 예언한 말씀과, 주님이신 구주께서 여러분의 사도들을 시켜서 주신 계명을, 여러분의 기억 속에 되살리려는 것입니다.	That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3	여러분이 무엇보다 먼저 알아야 할 것은 이것입니다. 마지막 때에 조롱하는 자들이 나타나서, 자기들의 욕망대로 살면서, 여러분을 조롱하여	Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4	이렇게 말할 것입니다. “그리스도가 다시 오신다는 약속은 어디 갔느냐? 조상들이 잠든 이래로, 만물은 창조 때부터 그러하였듯이 그냥 그대로다.”	And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5	그들이 이렇게 말하는 것은, 하나님의 말씀으로 하늘이 오랜 옛날부터 있었고, 땅이 물에서 나와 물로 말미암아 형성되었다는 것과,	For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6	또 물로 그 때 세계가 홍수에 잠겨 망하여 버렸다는 사실을, 그들이 일부러 무시하기 때문입니다.	Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7	그러나 지금 있는 하늘과 땅도 불사르기 위하여 그 동일한 말씀으로 보존되고 있으며, 경건하지 못한 자들이 심판을 받아 멸망을 당할 날까지 유지됩니다.	But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8	사랑하는 여러분, 이 한 가지만은 잊지 마십시오. 주님께는 하루가 천 년 같고, 천 년이 하루 같습니다.	But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9	어떤 이들이 생각하는 것과 같이, 주님께서는 약속을 더디 지키시는 것이 아닙니다. 도리어 여러분을 위하여 오래 참으시는 것입니다. 하나님께서는 아무도 멸망하지 않고, 모두 회개하는 데에 이르기를 바라십니다.	The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10	그러나 주님의 날은 도둑같이 올 것입니다. 그 날에 하늘은 요란한 소리를 내면서 사라지고, 원소들은 불에 녹아버리고, 땅과 그 안에 있는 모든 일은 드러날 것입니다.	But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11	이렇게 모든 것이 녹아버릴 터인데, [여러분은] 어떠한 사람이 되어야 하겠습니까? 여러분은 거룩한 행실과 경건한 삶 속에서	Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12	하나님의 날이 오기를 기다리고, 그 날을 앞당기도록 하여야 하지 않겠습니까? 그 날에 하늘은 불타서 없어지고, 원소들은 타서 녹아버릴 것입니다.	Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13	그러나 우리는 주님의 약속을 따라 정의가 깃들여 있는 새 하늘과 새 땅을 기다리고 있습니다.	Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14	사랑하는 여러분, 여러분이 이것을 기다리고 있으니, 티도 없고 흠도 없는 사람으로, 아무 탈이 없이 하나님 앞에 나타날 수 있도록 힘쓰십시오.	Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15	그리고 우리 주님의 오래 참으심이 구원을 위한 것이라고 생각하십시오. 그것은 우리의 사랑하는 형제 바울이, 자기가 받은 지혜를 따라서 여러분에게 편지한 바와 같습니다.	And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16	바울은 모든 편지에서 이런 것을 두고 말하고 있는데, 그 가운데는 알기 어려운 것이 더러 있어서, 무식하거나 믿음이 굳세지 못한 사람은, 다른 성경을 잘못 해석하듯이 그것을 잘못 해석해서, 마침내 스스로 파멸에 이르고 말 것입니다.	As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17	그러므로 사랑하는 여러분, 여러분은 이 사실을 미리 알고, 불의한 자들의 유혹에 휩쓸려서 자기의 확신을 잃는 일이 없도록 주의하십시오.	Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18	우리의 주님이시며 구주이신 그리스도 예수에 대한 지식과 그의 은혜 안에서 자라십시오. 이제도 영원한 날까지도 영광이 주님께 있기를 빕니다. [아멘.]	But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
