절	새번역 (2001)	King James Version
1	호르마를 점령하다 네겝 지방에 살고 있던 가나안 사람 아랏 왕은, 이스라엘이 아다림 길로 오고 있다는 소식을 듣고 나와서, 이스라엘과 맞서 싸워, 그들 가운데서 얼마를 포로로 사로잡았다.	And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
2	그 때에 이스라엘이 주님께 다음과 같은 말로 서약하였다. “주님께서 이 백성을 우리 손에 붙이시면, 우리는 그들의 성읍들을 전멸시키겠습니다.”	And Israel vowed a vow unto the Lord, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
3	주님께서 이스라엘의 간구를 들으시고, 그 가나안 사람을 그들의 손에 붙이시니, 이스라엘이 그들과 그들의 성읍들을 전멸시켰다. 그리하여 사람들은 그 곳 이름을 호르마라고 부르게 되었다.	And the Lord hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
4	구리 뱀으로 백성을 구하다 그들은 에돔 땅을 돌아서 가려고, 호르 산에서부터 홍해 길을 따라 나아갔다. 길을 걷는 동안에 백성들은 마음이 몹시 조급하였다.	And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
5	그래서 백성들은 하나님과 모세를 원망하였다. “어찌하여 우리를 이집트에서 데리고 나왔습니까? 이 광야에서 우리를 죽이려고 합니까? 먹을 것도 없습니다. 마실 것도 없습니다. 이 보잘것없는 음식은 이제 진저리가 납니다.”	And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.
6	그러자 주님께서 백성들에게 불뱀을 보내셨다. 그것들이 사람을 무니, 이스라엘 백성이 많이 죽었다.	And the Lord sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
7	백성이 모세에게 와서 간구하였다. “주님과 어른을 원망함으로써 우리가 죄를 지었습니다. 이 뱀이 우리에게서 물러가게 해 달라고 주님께 기도하여 주시기 바랍니다.” 그리하여 모세가 백성들을 살려 달라고 기도하였다.	Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord, and against thee; pray unto the Lord, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
8	주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “너는 불뱀을 만들어 기둥 위에 달아 놓아라. 물린 사람은 누구든지 그것을 보면 살 것이다.”	And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.
9	그리하여 모세는 구리로 뱀을 만들어서 그것을 기둥 위에 달아 놓았다. 뱀이 사람을 물었을 때에, 물린 사람은 구리로 만든 그 뱀을 쳐다보면 살아났다.	And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
10	호르 산에서 모압 골짜기까지 이스라엘 자손은 그 곳을 떠나서는 오봇에 이르러 진을 쳤다.	And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
11	오봇을 떠나서는 이예아바림에 이르러 진을 쳤다. 그 곳은 모압 맞은편, 해 돋는 쪽 광야이다.	And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ije–abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
12	또 그 곳을 떠나서는 세렛 골짜기에 이르러 진을 쳤다.	From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
13	또 그 곳을 떠나서는 아르논 강에 이르러 북쪽 강변을 따라 진을 쳤다. 그 곳은 아모리 사람의 경계로 이어지는 광야이다. 아르논 강은 모압과 아모리 사이에 있는 모압 경계이다.	From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that cometh out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
14	그래서 ‘주님의 전쟁기’에도 다음과 같은 말이 있다. “……수바 지역의 와헙 마을과 아르논 골짜기와	Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the Lord, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
15	모든 골짜기의 비탈은 아르 고을로 뻗어 있고 모압의 경계에 닿아 있다.”	And at the stream of the brooks that goeth down to the dwelling of Ar, and lieth upon the border of Moab.
16	그들은 그 곳을 떠나서 브엘에 이르렀다. 브엘은 주님께서 모세에게 “백성을 모아라. 내가 그들에게 물을 주마” 하고 말씀하신, 바로 그 샘이 있는 곳이다.	And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the Lord spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
17	그 때에 이스라엘은 이런 노래를 불렀다. “샘물아, 솟아나라. 모두들 샘물을 노래하여라.	Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:
18	지도자들이 파고, 백성의 원로들이 왕의 통치 지팡이들로 터뜨린 샘물이다.” 그들은 그 광야를 떠나 맛다나에 이르렀다.	The princes digged the well, the nobles of the people digged it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
19	맛다나를 떠나서는 나할리엘에 이르고, 나할리엘을 떠나서는 바못에 이르렀다.	And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
20	바못을 떠나서는 비스가 산 꼭대기 부근, 광야가 내려다보이는 모압 고원지대의 한 골짜기에 이르렀다. ()	And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh toward Jeshimon.
21	요단 동쪽을 점령하다 거기에서 이스라엘은 아모리 왕 시혼에게 사신들을 보내어 요청하였다.	And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
22	“우리가 임금님의 땅을 지나가도록 허락하여 주십시오. 밭이나 포도원에는 들어가지 않겠습니다. 샘물도 마시지 않겠습니다. 임금님의 영토 경계를 다 지나갈 때까지 우리는 ‘왕의 길’만 따라가겠습니다.”	Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king’s high way, until we be past thy borders.
23	그러나 시혼은 이스라엘이 자기 영토를 지나가는 것을 허락하지 않았다. 오히려 그는 이스라엘을 맞아 싸우려고 군대를 모두 이끌고 광야로 나왔다. 그는 야하스에 이르러 이스라엘을 맞아 싸웠다.	And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
24	그러나 이스라엘이 도리어 그를 칼로 쳐죽이고 아르논에서부터 얍복에 이르기까지 그 땅을 차지하였다. 이스라엘이 거의 암몬 자손에게까지 이르렀으나, 암몬 자손의 국경은 수비가 막강하였다.	And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
25	이스라엘은 아모리 사람의 성읍을 모두 점령하고, 헤스본과 그 주변 모든 마을을 포함한 아모리의 모든 성읍에 자리를 잡았다.	And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
26	헤스본은 아모리 사람의 왕 시혼의 도성이었다. 시혼은 모압의 이전 왕과 싸워, 아르논에 이르기까지, 그가 가지고 있던 땅을 모두 빼앗았던 왕이다.	For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
27	그래서 시인들은 이렇게 읊었다. “헤스본으로 오너라. 시혼의 도성을 재건하여라. 그것을 굳게 세워라.	Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
28	헤스본에서 불이 나오고, 시혼의 마을에서 불꽃이 나와서, 모압의 아르를 삼키고, 아르논 높은 산당들을 살랐다.	For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it hath consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
29	모압아, 너에게 화가 미쳤다. 그모스 신을 믿는 백성아, 너는 망하였다. 아모리 왕 시혼에게 꼼짝없이, 아들들이 쫓겨가고 딸들이 끌려갔다.	Woe to thee, Moab! thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: he hath given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
30	그러나 우리는 그들을 넘어뜨렸다. 헤스본에서 디본에 이르기까지, 메드바에서 가까운 노바에 이르기까지, 우리는 그들을 쳐부수었다.”	We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reacheth unto Medeba.
31	이렇게 이스라엘은 아모리 사람의 땅에 자리를 잡았다.	Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
32	모세는 야스엘로 사람을 보내어 탐지하게 한 다음, 그 주변 촌락들을 점령하고 거기에 있던 아모리 사람들을 내쫓았다.	And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
33	그 다음에 그들은 방향을 바꾸어서, 바산 길로 올라갔다. 그러자 바산 왕 옥이 자기의 군대를 모두 거느리고, 그들을 맞아 싸우려고 에드레이로 나왔다.	And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
34	그 때에 주님께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. “그를 두려워하지 말아라. 내가 그와 그의 온 군대와 그의 땅을 너의 손에 넘겼으니, 전에 헤스본에 사는 아모리 왕 시혼을 무찌른 것처럼 그를 무찔러라.”	And the Lord said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
35	그리하여 그들은 그와 그의 아들들과 그의 온 군대를, 생존자 하나도 남기지 않고, 다 때려 눕혔다. 그리고 그들은 그 땅을 차지하였다.	So they smote him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
