1	바울이 자기의 사도직을 변호하다 나 바울은 그리스도의 온유하심과 관대하심을 힘입어서 여러분을 권면합니다. 내가 얼굴을 마주 대하고 있을 때에는 여러분에게 유순하나, 떠나 있을 때에는 여러분에게 강경하다고들 합니다.	Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
2	내가 여러분에게 청하는 것은, 내가 가서 여러분을 대할 때에 강경하게 대해야 할 일이 없게 해 달라는 것입니다. 그러나 우리가 육정을 따라서 처신한다고 여기는 사람들에게는 나는 확신을 가지고 담대하게 대하려고 생각합니다.	But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
3	우리가 육신을 입고 살고 있습니다마는, 육정을 따라서 싸우는 것은 아닙니다.	For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4	싸움에 쓰는 우리의 무기는, 육체의 무기가 아니라, 하나님 앞에서 견고한 요새라도 무너뜨리는 강력한 무기입니다. 우리는 궤변을 무찌르고,	(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5	하나님을 아는 지식을 가로막는 모든 교만을 쳐부수고, 모든 생각을 사로잡아서, 그리스도께 복종시킵니다.	Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6	그리고 여러분이 온전히 순종하게 될 때에는, 우리는 모든 복종하지 않는 자를 처벌할 준비가 되어 있을 것입니다.	And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
7	여러분은 겉모양만 봅니다. 누구든지 자기가 그리스도께 속한 사람이라고 확신한다면, 자기가 그리스도께 속한 사람인 것과 같이, 우리도 그리스도께 속한 사람이라는 것을 다시 한 번 스스로 명심해야 할 것입니다.	Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.
8	주님께서 우리에게 주신 권위를 내가 좀 지나치게 자랑했다고 하더라도, 그 권위는 주님께서 여러분을 넘어뜨리라고 주신 것이 아니라, 세우라고 주신 것이므로, 나는 부끄러울 것이 없습니다.	For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
9	나는 편지로 여러분에게 겁을 주려고 하는 것처럼 보이고 싶지는 않습니다.	That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
10	“바울의 편지는 무게가 있고, 힘이 있지만, 직접 대할 때에는, 그는 약하고, 말주변도 변변치 못하다” 하고 말하는 사람들이 있습니다.	For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.
11	이런 사람들은, 우리가 떠나 있을 때에 편지로 쓰는 말과, 함께 있을 때에 행하는 일 사이에는, 아무런 차이가 없다는 것을 알아야 합니다.	Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
12	우리는 자기를 내세우는 사람들과 같은 부류가 되려고 하거나, 그들과 견주어 보려고 하지 않습니다. 그러나 그들은 자기를 척도로 하여 자기를 재고, 자기를 기준으로 하여 자기를 견주어 보고 있으니, 어리석기 짝이 없습니다.	For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
13	우리는 마땅한 정도 이상으로 자랑을 하려고 하지 않습니다. 우리가 여러분에게까지 다다른 것도, 하나님께서 우리에게 정하여 주신 한계 안에서 된 일입니다.	But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
14	그러므로 우리는 여러분에게로 가지 못할 사람이 아닙니다. 우리가 여러분에게까지 가서 그리스도의 복음을 전한 것은, 한계를 벗어나서 행동한 것이 아닙니다.	For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
15	우리는 주제 넘게 다른 사람들이 수고한 일을 가지고 자랑하려는 것이 아닙니다. 다만 바라는 것은 여러분의 믿음이 자람에 따라 우리의 활동 범위가 여러분 가운데서 더 넓게 확장되는 것입니다.	Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
16	우리는 여러분의 지역을 넘어서 복음을 전하려는 것이요, 남들이 자기네 지역에서 이미 이루어 놓은 일을 가지고 자랑하려는 것이 아닙니다.	To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.
17	“자랑하려는 사람은 주님 안에서 자랑해야 합니다.”	But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
18	참으로 인정을 받는 사람은 스스로 자기를 내세우는 사람이 아니라, 주님께서 내세워 주시는 사람입니다.	For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
