| 2 | Ecco, come gli occhi dei servi guardano la mano del loro padrone, come gli occhi della serva guardano la mano della sua padrona, | Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us. |
| 3 | così gli occhi nostri guardano all’Eterno, all’Iddio nostro, finché egli abbia pietà di noi. | Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. |
| 4 | Abbi pietà di noi, o Eterno, abbi pietà di noi, perché siamo più che sazi di disprezzo. (H123-5) L’anima nostra è più che sazia dello scherno della gente agiata e del disprezzo dei superbi. | Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. |
