| 3 | Il mare lo vide e fuggì, il Giordano tornò addietro. | The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. |
| 4 | I monti saltarono come montoni, i colli come agnelli. | The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. |
| 5 | Che avevi, o mare, che fuggisti? E tu, Giordano, che tornasti addietro? | What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? |
