Job jatkoi lausuen mietelmiään ja sanoi: Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
"Oi, jospa olisin, niinkuin olin ammoin kuluneina kuukausina, niinkuin niinä päivinä, joina Jumala minua varjeli, Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
jolloin hänen lamppunsa loisti pääni päällä ja minä hänen valossansa vaelsin pimeyden halki! When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
Jospa olisin niinkuin kukoistukseni päivinä, jolloin Jumalan ystävyys oli majani yllä, As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
jolloin Kaikkivaltias oli vielä minun kanssani ja poikani minua ympäröivät, When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
jolloin askeleeni kylpivät kermassa ja kallio minun vierelläni vuoti öljyvirtoja! When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
Kun menin kaupunkiin porttiaukealle, kun asetin istuimeni torille, When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!
niin nuorukaiset väistyivät nähdessään minut, vanhukset nousivat ja jäivät seisomaan, The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
päämiehet lakkasivat puhumasta ja panivat kätensä suulleen. The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
Ruhtinasten ääni vaikeni, ja heidän kielensä tarttui suulakeen. The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
Sillä kenen korva minusta kuuli, hän ylisti minua onnelliseksi, kenen silmä minut näki, hän minusta todisti; When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
minä näet pelastin kurjan, joka apua huusi, ja orvon, jolla ei auttajaa ollut. Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
Menehtyväisen siunaus tuli minun osakseni, ja lesken sydämen minä saatoin riemuitsemaan. The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.
Vanhurskaudella minä vaatetin itseni, ja se verhosi minut; oikeus oli minulla viittana ja päähineenä. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
Minä olin sokean silmä ja ontuvan jalka. I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
Minä olin köyhien isä, ja tuntemattoman asiaa minä tarkoin tutkin. I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
Minä särjin väärintekijän leukaluut ja tempasin saaliin hänen hampaistansa. And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
Silloin ajattelin: 'Pesääni minä saan kuolla, ja minä lisään päiväni paljoiksi kuin hiekka. Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
Onhan juureni vedelle avoinna, ja kaste yöpyy minun oksillani. My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
Kunniani uudistuu alati, ja jouseni nuortuu minun kädessäni.' My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
He kuuntelivat minua ja odottivat, olivat vaiti ja vartoivat neuvoani. Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
Puhuttuani eivät he enää sanaa sanoneet, vihmana vuoti puheeni heihin. After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
He odottivat minua niinkuin sadetta ja avasivat suunsa niinkuin kevätkuurolle. And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
Minä hymyilin heille, kun he olivat toivottomat, ja minun kasvojeni loistaessa eivät he synkiksi jääneet. If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
Jos suvaitsin tulla heidän luokseen, niin minä istuin ylinnä, istuin kuin kuningas sotajoukkonsa keskellä, niinkuin se, joka murheelliset lohduttaa." I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.
