1	가인이 아벨을 죽이다 아담이 아내 하와와 잠자리했다. 하와가 아이를 가져 가인을 낳고는 “내가 여호와의 도움으로 사내아이를 얻었구나.” 하고 말했다.	And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the Lord.
2	또 가인의 아우 아벨을 낳았다. 아벨은 양치기가 되고, 가인은 농사꾼이 되었다.	And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3	그러던 어느 날 가인은 땅의 열매 가운데 얼마를 여호와께 예물로 바쳤다.	And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord.
4	아벨도 양의 첫 새끼들 가운데서 얼마를 잡아 그 기름덩이를 바쳤다. 여호와는 아벨과 그의 예물을 눈여겨보셨다.	And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5	그러나 가인과 그의 예물은 눈여겨보지 않으셨다. 가인은 크게 화를 냈다. 그러고는 고개를 떨구었다.	But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6	여호와께서 가인에게 물으셨다. “무슨 까닭으로 네가 화를 내느냐? 무슨 까닭으로 고개를 떨구느냐?	And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7	네가 행동을 잘한다면, 고개를 들 수 있지 않겠느냐? 그러나 행동을 잘하지 못한다면, 죄가 문 앞에 숨어 기다리고 있다. 너에게로 죄의 욕구가 향하고 있더라도, 넌 이겨 내야 해.”	If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8	가인이 자기 아우 아벨에게 나가자고 했다. 들에 이르자 가인은 자기 아우 아벨에게 달려들어 그를 때려죽였다.	And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9	여호와께서 가인에게 물으셨다. “너의 아우 아벨은 어디 있느냐?” 가인이 대답했다. “몰라요. 제가 뭐 아우를 지키는 사람인가요?”	And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
10	여호와께서 말씀하셨다. “네가 무슨 짓을 한 거냐? 들어 보아라! 네 아우의 피가 땅에서부터 나에게 소리치고 있구나.	And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
11	이제 너는 땅에서부터 저주를 받았다. 땅이 입을 벌려 네 아우의 피를 너의 손에서부터 받아 마셨구나.	And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;
12	네가 땅을 갈아도 땅이 너에게 열매를 더는 내 주지 않을 것이다. 너는 땅에서 이리저리 떠돌아다녀야 할 것이다.”	When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
13	가인이 여호와께 아뢰었다. “제가 받을 벌이 너무 무거워 참아 낼 수 없군요.	And Cain said unto the Lord, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
14	오늘 당장 땅 위에서 저를 내쫓으시는군요. 저로서는 주님의 얼굴을 피해 땅에서 이리저리 떠돌아다닐 텐데, 절 만나는 사람마다 저를 때려죽이려 들겠지요.”	Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
15	여호와께서 말씀하셨다. “그렇지 않다! 가인을 죽이는 사람은 누구든 일곱 배로 앙갚음당할 것이다.” 여호와께서는 가인에게 표를 하나 해 두어, 만나는 사람이 누구든 그를 쳐 죽이지 못하게 하셨다.	And the Lord said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
16	가인은 여호와 앞에서 물러나 에덴 동쪽 놋 땅에 살았다.	And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.
17	가인의 자손 가인이 아내와 잠자리했다. 아내가 아이를 가져 에녹을 낳았다. 가인이 도시를 세우고 있었는데, 그 도시의 이름을 아들의 이름을 따서 에녹이라고 불렀다.	And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18	에녹에게 이랏이 태어났다. 이랏이 므후야엘을 낳고, 므후야엘이 므두사엘을 낳고, 므두사엘이 라멕을 낳았다.	And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
19	라멕이 두 여자를 아내로 맞아들였다. 한 아내의 이름은 아다이고, 다른 한 아내의 이름은 실라였다.	And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.
20	아다가 야발을 낳았다. 야발은 천막에 살며 집짐승 치는 사람들의 조상이 되었다.	And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle.
21	아우의 이름은 유발이었다. 그는 기타 치고 피리 부는 모든 사람의 조상이 되었다.	And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
22	실라도 아이를 낳았는데, 두발가인이었다. 그는 대장장이로 놋과 쇠를 다루는 온갖 재주가 있었다. 두발가인에게는 나아마라는 누이가 있었다.	And Zillah, she also bare Tubal–cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal–cain was Naamah.
23	라멕이 두 아내에게 말했다. “아다! 실라! 내 말을 들어 보세요. 라멕의 아내인 그대들! 내 말에 귀 기울여 보세요. 사람을 죽였어요, 내게 생긴 멍 때문에. 아이를 죽였어요, 내 부어오른 상처 때문에.	And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
24	가인을 해치면 일곱 배로 앙갚음당하고, 라멕을 해치면 일흔일곱 배로 앙갚음당할 거예요.”	If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.
25	아담과 하와가 셋을 낳다 아담이 다시 아내와 잠자리했다. 아내가 아들을 낳고 이름을 셋이라고 지어 불렀다. ‘가인이 죽인 아벨 대신에 하나님이 나에게 다른 후손을 두게 하셨다.’ 하고 생각했기 때문이다.	And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
26	셋에게도 아들이 태어나, 이름을 에노스라고 지어 불렀다. 그때에 사람들이 여호와의 이름을 부르기 시작했다.	And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
