1	형들이 베냐민을 데리고 이집트로 가다 그 땅에 큰 흉년이 들었다.	And the famine was sore in the land.
2	이집트에서 가져온 곡식을 다 먹자 아버지가 아들들에게 말했다. “우리 먹을 양식을 조금이라도 다시 사 오렴.”	And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.
3	유다가 아버지의 말씀을 받았다. “그 사람이 저희에게 단단히 경고하더군요. ‘그대들의 아우가 그대들과 함께 오지 않는다면, 그대들은 나의 얼굴을 보지 못할 것이오.’	And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
4	아버지께서 아우를 저희와 함께 보내 주시면, 저희가 내려가서 아버지 드실 양식을 사 오겠습니다.	If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:
5	아우를 보내 주시지 않으면, 저희도 내려가지 않겠습니다. 그 사람이 말했거든요. ‘그대들의 아우가 그대들과 함께 오지 않는다면, 그대들은 나의 얼굴을 보지 못할 것이오.’라고요.”	But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.
6	이스라엘이 말했다. “어째서 그 사람한테 너희에게 아우가 하나 더 있다고 이야기해서 나를 괴롭히느냐?”	And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?
7	아들들이 대답했다. “그 사람이 우리와 우리 가족에 대해 꼬치꼬치 묻더라고요. ‘그대들의 아버지는 아직 살아 계시오? 그대들에게 형제가 더 있소?’ 그래서 이런 여러 말에 맞추어 이야기해 주었지요. 그가 ‘그대들의 아우와 함께 내려오시오!’라고 말할 줄 저희가 어떻게 알았겠어요?”	And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?
8	유다가 아버지 이스라엘에게 말했다. “그 아이를 저와 함께 보내 주십시오. 그러면 저희가 일어나 가겠습니다. 그래야 우리가 죽지 않고 살 수 있습니다. 저희도 아버지도 저희 어린것들도요.	And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.
9	제가 그 아이를 책임지겠습니다. 저에게 책임을 물으십시오. 제가 그 아이를 아버지께 데려와 아버지 앞에 서게 하지 못하면, 아버지께 평생 그 죗값을 치르겠습니다.	I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:
10	우리가 머뭇거리지 않았으면, 지금 두 번은 더 다녀왔을 겁니다.”	For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.
11	그들에게 그들의 아버지 이스라엘이 말했다. “그렇다면 이렇게 해 보렴. 이 땅에서 나는 가장 좋은 것들을 너희 그릇에 담아 가지고 내려가서 그 사람에게 선물로 바치렴. 유향과 꿀을 조금씩, 또 향고무, 몰약, 피스타치오, 아몬드도 담아 가고.	And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:
12	돈은 두 배로 손에 쥐고 가렴. 도로 돌아와 너희 자루 입구에 있던 돈은 너희 손으로 돌려주렴. 아마도 실수였을 테지.	And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:
13	너희 아우를 데리고, 일어나 그 사람에게로 돌아가렴.	Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:
14	엘샷다이(전능하신 하나님)께서 그 사람 앞에서 너희에게 자비를 베풀어 주시기를! 그리하여 그 사람이 너희의 다른 형제와 베냐민을 보내 주시기를! 내가 자식을 잃어야 한다면 잃어야겠지.”	And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
15	그들이 이런 여러 선물을 챙겼고, 돈은 두 배로 손에 쥐었다. 베냐민도 데려갔다. 그들이 일어나 이집트로 내려가서 요셉 앞에 섰다.	And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.
16	요셉은 형들과 베냐민을 보고는 자기 집을 맡아 돌보는 사람에게 말했다. “이 사람들을 집으로 데려가라. 그리고 짐승을 잡아 요리를 준비해라. 나와 함께 이 사람들이 점심을 먹을 것이기 때문이다.”	And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.
17	그 사람은 요셉이 말한 대로 했다. 그 사람은 요셉의 형제들을 요셉의 집으로 데려갔다.	And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.
18	형들은 두려워했다. 자신들을 사람들이 요셉의 집으로 데려갔기 때문이다. 그래서 서로 말했다. “지난번에 도로 돌아와 우리 자루에 있던 돈 때문에 우리가 끌려가고 있는 거야. 우리에게 덤벼들어 우리를 덮쳐, 잡아다가 종으로 삼을 테지. 우리 나귀는 빼앗아 가고.”	And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.
19	형들은 요셉의 집을 맡아 돌보는 그 사람에게 다가갔다. 그러고는 그 집의 문에 이르렀을 때 말을 꺼냈다.	And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,
20	“주제넘은 말씀입니다만, 어르신! 분명히 지난번에 우리가 양식을 사려고 내려왔습니다.	And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:
21	그런데 밤을 보낼 숙소에 이르러 자루를 열어 보았더니, 거기, 각자의 돈이 고스란히 자루 입구에 있었습니다. 그래서 그 돈을 저희 손으로 도로 가져왔습니다.	And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.
22	그리고 이번에 양식 살 돈은 따로 손에 들고 내려왔습니다. 저희 돈을 저희 자루에 누가 넣었는지 저희는 알지 못합니다.”	And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.
23	그가 대답했다. “마음 놓으시오. 두려워하지 마시오. 그대들의 하나님, 그대들 아버지의 하나님이 자루에 보물을 넣어 그대들에게 주셨소. 그대들이 낸 돈은 내 손에 들어왔소.” 그러고는 그 사람이 시므온을 그들에게 데려다주었다.	And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.
24	그 사람은 요셉의 형제들을 요셉의 집으로 데려다준 다음에, 발을 씻을 수 있도록 물을 가져다주었다. 형제들의 나귀에게는 여물을 주었다.	And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.
25	형제들은 요셉이 점심 때 오면 주려고 선물을 마련해 두었다. 그들이 들은 대로는, 거기서 음식을 먹을 것이라고 했기 때문이다.	And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.
26	드디어 요셉이 집에 오자, 형제들은 자기들 손에 들고 그 집으로 가져온 선물을 그에게 바쳤다. 그러고는 땅에 엎드려 그에게 절했다.	And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.
27	요셉이 그들에게 잘 지냈는지 묻고 나서 말했다. “그대들의 아버지도 잘 지내시오? 전에 그대들이 말한 노인 말이오. 아직 살아 계시오?”	And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?
28	형제들이 대답했다. “총리님의 종인 저희 아버지는 잘 지내십니다. 아직 살아 계십니다.” 그러고는 무릎 꿇고 엎드려 절했다.	And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.
29	요셉이 눈길을 돌려 아우 베냐민, 곧 자기 친어머니의 아들을 보았다. 그러고는 물었다. “그대들이 전에 나에게 말한 그 막내아우가 이 사람이오?” 그리고 덧붙여 말했다. “하나님이 그대를 불쌍히 여겨 주시기를 바라오, 젊은이!”	And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.
30	요셉은 서둘러 나왔다. 아우를 향한 애틋한 정이 북받쳐 눈물이 쏟아질 지경이었기 때문이다. 요셉은 어두운 방에 들어가 거기서 울었다.	And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.
31	그러고는 얼굴을 씻고 나와서, 마음을 가다듬고 말했다. “음식을 내오시오!”	And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.
32	사람들이 요셉에게 따로, 형제들에게 따로, 그 자리에 함께한 이집트 사람들에게 따로 음식을 내왔다. 이집트 사람들은 히브리 사람들과 함께 밥을 먹을 수 없었기 때문이다. 이것이 이집트 사람들에게는 역겨운 일이었다.	And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
33	형제들은 요셉 앞에 앉았는데, 맏이는 맏이 자리에, 막내는 막내 자리에 앉았다. 그들은 서로 쳐다보면서 놀라워했다.	And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.
34	요셉은 자기 앞의 밥상에서 음식을 덜어다가 그들에게 갖다주게 했다. 그런데 베냐민이 받은 몫은 형들이 저마다 받은 몫보다 다섯 배나 많았다. 그들은 요셉과 함께 마시고 취했다.	And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin’s mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
