1	야곱과 에서가 만나다 야곱이 눈길을 돌려 살펴보았다. 그런데, 저기, 에서가 오고 있는 것이 아닌가! 남자 400명이 함께 있었다. 야곱은 레아, 라헬, 두 명의 여자 노예에게 아이들을 나누어 맡게 했다.	And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
2	여자 노예들과 그들의 아이들을 맨 먼저 가게 했다. 레아와 그의 아이들이 뒤따르게 했고, 라헬과 요셉은 맨 나중에 가게 했다.	And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
3	야곱 자신은 앞장서서 나아갔다. 일곱 번 땅에 엎드려 절하고서는 마침내 형에게 가까이 갔다.	And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4	에서가 달려와서 그를 맞아 얼싸안았다. 그의 목을 끌어안고 그에게 입맞춤했다. 그리고 두 사람은 울었다.	And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
5	에서가 눈길을 돌려 여자들과 아이들을 보았다. 그러고는 물었다. “이들이 너하고 어떤 사이냐?” 야곱이 대답했다. “하나님이 불쌍히 여겨 어르신의 종인 저에게 주신 아이들입니다.”	And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
6	여자 노예들과 그들의 아이들이 가까이 와서 엎드려 절했다.	Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.
7	레아와 그의 아이들도 가까이 와서 절했다. 그러고 나서 요셉과 라헬이 가까이 와서 엎드려 절했다.	And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8	에서가 또 물었다. “나와 마주친 이 모든 사람들과 짐승들은 무슨 뜻으로 보낸 것이냐?” 야곱이 대답했다. “제가 어르신 눈에 들었으면 해서입니다.”	And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.
9	에서가 말했다. “내게도 많이 있다, 아우야! 너의 것은 너의 것으로 두어라.”	And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.
10	야곱이 말했다. “아닙니다. 제가 어르신 눈에 든다면, 저의 선물을 제 손에서 받아 주세요. 이렇게 어르신의 얼굴을 뵙고 보니, 하나님의 얼굴을 뵙는 듯하기 때문입니다. 어르신이 저를 따뜻이 맞아 주시는군요.	And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.
11	제가 어르신을 위해 가져온 이 축복의 선물을 꼭 받아 주십시오. 하나님이 저를 불쌍히 여겨 주셨고, 저에게는 모든 것이 있기 때문입니다.” 야곱이 자꾸만 권하자 에서가 받았다.	Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
12	에서가 말했다. “더 나아가자. 내가 앞장설 테니.”	And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.
13	야곱이 에서에게 말했다. “어르신이 아시다시피 아이들은 약합니다. 또 젖을 먹이는 양 떼와 소 떼도 제게 있어서 하루에 너무 심하게 몰면, 짐승이 다 죽게 될 겁니다.	And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
14	어르신은 어르신의 종인 저보다 앞서가시지요. 저는 앞에 있는 짐승들과 아이들의 걸음걸이에 맞추어 천천히 움직이겠습니다. 마침내 세일에 이르면 어르신을 뵙지요.”	Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
15	에서가 말했다. “그럼 나와 함께 온 사람들 중에 몇을 네 곁에 남겨 두도록 하마.” 야곱이 물었다. “왜 그렇게까지 하시려는 건가요? 저는 어르신 눈에 들고 싶을 뿐인데요.”	And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
16	그날 에서는 길을 재촉하여 세일로 돌아갔다.	So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
17	야곱은 계속 움직여 숙곳에 이르러, 자기가 머물 집을 짓고 짐승들을 둘 초막을 여럿 만들었다. 그래서 그곳 이름을 숙곳이라고 지어 불렀다.	And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18	야곱이 세겜에 자리 잡다 야곱은 밧단아람을 떠나 가나안 땅의 도시 세겜에 아무 탈 없이 도착했다. 그러고는 도시 앞쪽에 진을 쳤다.	And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan–aram; and pitched his tent before the city.
19	야곱은 자기의 천막을 친 밭을 세겜의 아버지인 하몰의 아들들에게서 샀다. 땅값으로 야곱은 100크시타를 치렀다.	And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.
20	야곱은 거기에 제단을 만들어 세우고, 그 제단을 엘엘로헤이스라엘이라고 불렀다.	And he erected there an altar, and called it El–elohe–Israel.
