1	사라가 죽고 아브라함이 묘지를 사다 사라는 127년을 살았다. 사라가 산 햇수가 그러했다.	And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2	사라는 가나안 땅 기랴다르바 곧 헤브론에서 죽었다. 아브라함이 들어가서 사라의 죽음을 슬퍼하며 울었다.	And Sarah died in Kirjath–arba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3	아브라함은 아내의 시신 앞에서 일어나 히타이트 사람들에게 부탁했다.	And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
4	“저는 나그네이자 더부살이로 여러분과 함께 살고 있습니다. 제가 여러분한테서 제 소유의 묘지를 얻어 아내의 장례를 치르게 해 주십시오.”	I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
5	히타이트 사람들이 아브라함에게 대답했다.	And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
6	“어르신, 저희 말을 들어 보세요. 어르신은 저희 가운데서 크게 존경받는 분이십니다. 저희의 묘지 가운데 가장 좋은 곳에 부인을 모시세요. 저희 가운데 자신의 묘지에 어르신이 부인 모시는 것을 마다할 사람은 없습니다.”	Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
7	아브라함이 일어나서 그 땅의 백성인 히타이트 사람들에게 엎드려 절했다.	And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8	그러고는 말했다. “제가 그렇게 아내의 장례를 치러도 괜찮다고 하시니 제 말을 들어 보십시오. 저를 위해 나서서 소할의 아들 에브론에게 부탁해 주십시오.	And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9	그의 밭 끝에 붙어 있는 막벨라 동굴을 제게 내주라고요. 값은 넉넉히 쳐드리지요. 그 동굴을 제게 내주어 여러분 가운데서 제 소유의 묘지로 쓰게 해 주십시오.”	That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
10	마침 에브론이 히타이트 사람들 가운데 앉아 있었다. 히타이트 사람 에브론은 그 도시의 성문에 나와 있던 히타이트 사람들의 귀에 들리도록 아브라함에게 대답했다.	And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11	“아닙니다, 어르신, 제 말을 들어 보세요. 그 밭을 제가 어르신께 드리지요. 거기에 있는 동굴, 그것도 드리지요. 우리 동족의 눈앞에서 그 동굴을 어르신께 드리지요. 부인의 장례를 치르시도록요.”	Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
12	아브라함은 그 땅의 백성 앞에서 엎드려 절했다.	And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13	그러고는 그 땅 백성의 귀에 들리도록 에브론에게 말했다. “그럴 수 없지요. 선생께서 제 말을 들어 주세요. 밭값을 드리지요. 받아 주세요. 그래야 제가 거기에서 아내의 장례를 치를 수 있겠습니다.”	And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14	에브론이 아브라함에게 대답했다.	And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
15	“어르신, 제 말을 들어 보세요. 땅값은 은 4.8킬로그램이에요. 그렇지만 어르신과 저 사이에 무슨 그런 말씀을 하십니까? 부인을 그냥 모시세요.”	My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16	아브라함이 에브론의 말을 알아들었다. 아브라함은 에브론이 히타이트 사람들의 귀에 들리도록 말한 대로 은을 달아 그에게 주었다. 상인들이 널리 쓰던 무게 단위로 4.8킬로그램이었다.	And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17	그래서 마므레 앞 막벨라에 있는 에브론의 밭이 팔렸다. 곧 그 밭과 그 안의 동굴과 사방 모든 경계 안에 있는 그 밭의 모든 나무가 팔렸다.	And the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18	그 도시의 성문으로 들어오던 모든 히타이트 사람들의 눈앞에서 그것들이 아브라함의 소유가 되었다.	Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19	그런 뒤에 아브라함은 마므레 맞은편 막벨라 밭의 동굴에서 아내 사라의 장례를 치렀다. 그곳은 가나안 땅 헤브론이다.	And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20	그 밭과 그 안의 동굴이 팔려 그 묘지의 소유권이 히타이트 사람들에게서 아브라함에게로 넘어갔다.	And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.
