1	아브라함과 사라가 그랄에서 어려움을 겪다 아브라함은 거기에서 길을 나서서 네게브 땅으로 나아갔다. 가데스와 수르 사이에 자리를 잡고, 그랄에서 나그네로 살았다.	And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.
2	아브라함이 아내 사라를 두고서 말했다. “제 누이입니다.” 그래서 그랄 임금 아비멜렉이 사람을 보내어 사라를 데려오게 했다.	And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, She is my sister: and Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.
3	하나님이 그날 밤 꿈에 아비멜렉에게 오셔서 말씀하셨다. “이제 너는 네가 데려온 이 여자 때문에 죽을 것이다. 그는 다른 사람의 아내이다.”	But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man’s wife.
4	아비멜렉이 그 여자를 가까이하지 않았으므로 아뢰었다. “주님, 어떤 민족이 의로운데도 죽이시렵니까?	But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5	아브라함이 저에게 말하기를 ‘제 누이입니다.’ 하지 않았습니까? 그 여자도 말하기를 ‘제 오빠입니다.’라고 했습니다. 저는 순수한 마음과 깨끗한 손으로 이 여자를 데려왔습니다.”	Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6	하나님이 꿈에 아비멜렉에게 또 말씀하셨다. “나도 네가 순수한 마음으로 그렇게 한 줄 알고 있다. 그래서 나도 네가 나에게 잘못하지 않도록 막았던 것이다. 이런 까닭에 네가 그 여자에게 손대게 내버려두지 않았다.	And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7	이제 그 남자의 아내를 돌려보내라! 그는 예언자여서 그가 너를 위해 기도하면 네가 살아남을 것이다. 돌려보내지 않으면 너와 네게 딸린 모든 사람이 반드시 죽을 줄 알아라.”	Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8	아비멜렉은 아침에 일찍 일어나 신하들을 다 불러 모았다. 그리고 그들의 귀에 들리도록 이 모든 일을 말해 주었다. 사람들이 몹시 두려워했다.	Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9	아비멜렉은 아브라함을 불러 그에게 따졌다. “우리에게 무슨 짓을 한 것이오? 내가 그대에게 무엇을 잘못했길래, 나와 내 나라가 큰 잘못을 저지르게 하려 한 것이오? 그대는 하지 말아야 할 짓을 나한테 한 것이오.”	Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10	아비멜렉이 아브라함에게 물었다. “그대가 무슨 생각을 했길래 이런 짓을 저지른 것이오?”	And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11	아브라함이 대답했다. “제게 이런 생각이 들었습니다. ‘이곳에서는 사람들이 하나님을 두려워하지 않는 것이 분명해. 그러니 내 아내 때문에 나를 죽일 거야.’	And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake.
12	사실 아내는 저의 배다른 누이인데, 제 아내가 되었거든요.	And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13	하나님이 저를 아버지 집에서 나와 떠돌게 하셨을 때, 제가 아내에게 부탁했지요. ‘당신이 사랑으로 나에게 해 줄 일이 있어요. 우리가 어디를 가든 나를 가리켜 「이분은 제 오빠입니다.」라고 말해 주세요.’”	And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14	아비멜렉은 양들과 소들과 남자 노예들과 여자 노예들을 데려다가 아브라함에게 주었다. 그리고 그에게 그의 아내 사라를 돌려보냈다.	And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15	아비멜렉이 말했다. “이보시오, 내 땅이 그대 앞에 있소. 그대 눈에 드는 대로 자리 잡으시오.”	And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16	사라에게도 말했다. “이보시오, 그대의 오빠에게 내가 은 1,000개를 주었소. 이는 그대의, 또 그대와 함께한 모든 사람의 명예를 더럽힌 것을 공개적으로 사과한다는 뜻이오. 그대가 떳떳하다는 것을 모두에게 알리는 것이오.”	And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17	아브라함이 하나님께 기도하자 하나님이 아비멜렉과 그의 아내와 여자 노예들을 고쳐 주셔서 그들이 아이를 낳았다.	So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18	여호와께서 아브라함의 아내 사라의 일 때문에 아비멜렉 집안 여자마다 아기집을 단단히 닫아 두셨던 것이다.	For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham’s wife.
