1	알 수 없는 것 “그대의 빵을 물 위에 띄워 보내세요. 세월이 흐르고 나서 되찾을 테니까요.	Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2	일곱 사람에게, 심지어는 여덟 사람에게 몫을 나눠 주세요. 그대는 알 수 없거든요. 세상에 무슨 나쁜 일이 일어날지를요.	Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3	구름에 비가 가득 차면 땅 위로 쏟아져요. 나무는 남쪽이나 북쪽으로 넘어지면, 그 나무가 넘어진 자리에 그대로 있을 테지요.	If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4	바람을 지켜보고 있는 사람은 씨를 뿌리지 않아요. 구름을 보고 있는 사람은 거두어들이지 않고요.	He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.
5	그대는 알지 못해요. 바람의 길이 어떠한지를요. 마찬가지로, 아이를 가진 여자의 뱃속에서 아이의 뼈가 어떻게 자라는지를요. 이처럼 그대는 알지 못해요. 하나님이 하시는 일을요. 그분은 그 모든 일을 하시지요.	As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
6	아침에 씨를 뿌리고 나서 저녁에도 손을 떼지 마세요. 그대는 알지 못하거든요. 어느 것이 잘될지, 이것일지 저것일지, 아니면 둘 모두 하나같이 좋을지를요.	In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.
7	빛은 달콤하고, 눈으로 해를 보면 기분 좋지요.	Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:
8	사람이 사는 햇수가 많으면 해마다 기뻐해야 하지요. 그렇지만 어두운 날이 많을 것이라는 점도 생각해야 하고요. 앞으로 닥칠 일은 모두 허무할 것이거든요.”	But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9	젊은이에게 주는 조언 “기뻐하게나, 젊은이, 그대의 젊은 한때를! 그대 마음에 좋도록 보내게, 그대의 젊은 시절을! 그대의 마음이 끌리는 길로 다녀 보게, 그대의 눈길이 가는 곳으로도! 그렇지만 알고 있게나, 이 모든 일을 두고 하나님이 그대를 데려다가 판가름하실 것임을!	Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10	울분을 그대의 마음에서 지워 버리고, 나쁜 것을 그대의 몸에서 멀리하게나. 어릴 때와 꽃다운 시절은 허무한 것이라네.”	Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.
