1	다시 태어남에 대해 니고데모와 말씀을 나누시다 바리새파에 속한 어떤 사람이 있었다. 그의 이름은 니고데모로, 유대아 사람들의 지도자였다.	There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2	이 사람이 밤에 예수님께로 와서 말했다. “랍비님, 우리가 알기로 랍비님은 하나님께로부터 오신 선생님입니다. 랍비님이 몸소 행하시는 이런 징표들을 아무도 할 수 없기 때문입니다. 하나님이 함께하시지 않으면요.”	The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3	예수님이 그에게 대답하셨다. “아멘 아멘 그대에게 말합니다. 누구든 위로부터 태어나지 않으면 하나님 나라를 볼 수 없습니다.”	Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4	예수님께 니고데모가 말한다. “사람이 나이가 들었는데 어떻게 다시 태어날 수 있습니까? 어머니 뱃속에 또다시 들어갔다가 태어날 수는 없지 않습니까?”	Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5	예수님이 대답하셨다. “아멘 아멘 그대에게 말합니다. 누구든 물과 성령님으로부터 태어나지 않으면 하나님 나라에 들어갈 수 없습니다.	Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6	육신으로부터 태어난 것은 육신이고, 성령님으로부터 태어난 것은 영입니다.	That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7	놀라워하지 마세요, 내가 그대에게 ‘여러분은 위로부터 태어나야만 합니다.’ 하고 말했다고 해서요.	Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8	바람은 불고 싶은 곳에서 불며, 그대는 그 소리를 듣습니다. 그러나 바람이 어디서 오고 어디로 가는지 그대는 알지 못합니다. 성령님으로부터 태어난 사람은 다 이와 같아요.”	The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9	니고데모가 예수님께 대답했다. “이런 일이 어떻게 일어날 수 있습니까?”	Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10	예수님이 그에게 대답하셨다. “그대야말로 이스라엘의 선생인데도 이런 일을 알아듣지 못합니까?	Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11	아멘 아멘 그대에게 말합니다. 우리는 알고 있는 것을 말하고, 본 것을 증언합니다. 그런데 그대들은 우리 증언을 받아들이지 않고 있어요.	Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12	내가 땅의 일을 말했는데도 그대들이 믿지 않고 있는데, 내가 하늘의 일을 말하면 그대들이 어떻게 믿겠습니까?”	If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13	예수님을 믿는 사람은 영원한 생명을 얻는다 “하늘에 올라가 본 사람은 아무도 없어요. 하늘에서 내려온 분, 곧 인자 말고는요.	And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14	모세가 광야에서 뱀을 높이 든 것처럼, 그렇게 인자가 높이 들려야만 합니다.	And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15	그것은 그를 믿는 사람마다 영원한 생명을 누릴 수 있게 하려는 겁니다.	That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16	하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하셔서 하나뿐인 아들을 주셨습니다. 그를 믿는 사람마다 멸망하지 않고 영원한 생명을 누릴 수 있도록 해 주셨습니다.	For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17	하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하시려는 것이 아닙니다. 그 아들을 통해서 세상이 구원받게 하시려는 것입니다.	For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18	그를 믿는 사람은 심판받지 않습니다. 그러나 믿지 않는 사람은 이미 심판을 받았습니다. 하나님의 하나뿐인 아들의 이름을 믿지 않았기 때문입니다.	He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19	심판이란 이것입니다. 빛이 세상에 왔는데, 사람들이 빛보다 어두움을 더 사랑했다는 것입니다. 그들이 한 일들이 악했기 때문이지요.	And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20	못된 짓을 하는 사람마다 빛을 미워하고 빛 가까이로 오지 않아요. 자기들이 한 일들이 들추어지지 않게 하려는 것이지요.	For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21	그러나 진리를 실행하는 사람은 빛 가까이로 옵니다. 자기가 한 일들이 하나님 안에서 한 것임이 드러나게 하려는 것이지요.”	But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22	요한의 역할과 예수님의 역할 이 일이 있은 뒤에 예수님과 제자들이 유대아 땅으로 갔다. 예수님이 거기서 그들과 시간을 보내셨고 세례도 주고 계셨다.	After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23	요한도 살렘 가까이 애논에서 세례를 주고 있었다. 거기에 물이 많았기 때문이다. 사람들이 계속해서 나아와 세례를 받았다.	And John also was baptizing in Ænon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24	아직 요한이 감옥에 갇혀 있지 않았기 때문이다.	For John was not yet cast into prison.
25	그때 깨끗하게 하는 예식에 대해 요한의 제자들과 어떤 유대아 사람 사이에 논쟁이 벌어졌다.	Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26	그들이 요한한테 가서 말했다. “랍비님, 요르단 건너편에서 랍비님과 함께 있었던 사람, 랍비님이 몸소 증언해 주셨던 사람 있지요. 보세요, 그 사람이 세례를 주고 있는데, 모두가 그 사람한테로 가고 있습니다!”	And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27	요한이 대답했다. “하늘로부터 주어지지 않았으면, 사람은 어느 것 하나도 받을 수 없어요.	John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28	바로 여러분이야말로 나를 위해 증언해 줄 사람들입니다. 내가 이렇게 말했지요. ‘나 자신은 그리스도가 아닙니다. 그분에 앞서 보내심을 받았어요.’	Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29	신부를 얻는 것은 신랑입니다. 하지만 신랑의 친구가 서 있다가 신랑이 오는 소리를 들으면 그 소리 때문에 기뻐하고 기뻐합니다. 바로 그런 기쁨이 나에게 가득합니다.	He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30	그분 명성은 커져야만 하고, 나는 사그라들어야만 합니다.”	He must increase, but I must decrease.
31	하나님의 아들 안에 있는 영원한 생명 “위로부터 오시는 분은 모든 것 위에 계십니다. 땅에 속한 사람은 땅에 속하여서 땅에 속한 방식으로 말합니다. 하늘로부터 오시는 분은 모든 것 위에 계십니다.	He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32	그분은 보고 들으신 것, 이것을 증언하십니다. 그런데 그분의 증언을 아무도 받아들이지 않습니다.	And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33	그분의 증언을 받아들인 사람은 하나님이 참되시다는 것을 인증한 것입니다.	He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34	하나님이 보내신 이가 하는 말은 하나님의 말씀이니까요. 재어 보지 않고 하나님이 성령님을 부어 주시기 때문입니다.	For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35	아버지는 아들을 사랑하시고, 모든 것을 그의 손안에 주셨습니다.	The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36	아들을 믿는 사람에게는 영원한 생명이 있습니다. 그러나 아들을 믿지 않는 사람은 생명을 보지 못할 것입니다. 오히려 하나님의 노여움이 그 사람 위에 머뭅니다.”	He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
