1	다윗이 나이 들다 다윗 임금이 늙고 나이 들었다. 사람들이 이불을 덮어 주어도 따뜻해하지 않았다.	Now king David was old and stricken in years; and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.
2	그에게 신하들이 말했다. “저의 주인이신 임금님께로, 결혼하지 않은 젊은 여자 한 사람을 찾아서 데려오게 하시지요. 임금님을 섬기고, 또 임금님을 돌보는 사람이 되도록요. 게다가 그 여자가 임금님 품에 누우면 임금님도 따뜻해하실 겁니다.”	Wherefore his servants said unto him, Let there be sought for my lord the king a young virgin: and let her stand before the king, and let her cherish him, and let her lie in thy bosom, that my lord the king may get heat.
3	그들은 이스라엘 온 지역에서 아름답고 젊은 여자를 찾았다. 그러다가 수넴 여자 아비삭을 만났다. 그들은 그를 임금에게로 데려왔다.	So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the coasts of Israel, and found Abishag a Shunammite, and brought her to the king.
4	그 젊은 여자는 몹시 아름다웠다. 그가 임금을 돌보는 사람이 되어 시중들었지만, 임금은 그와 잠자리하지는 않았다.	And the damsel was very fair, and cherished the king, and ministered to him: but the king knew her not.
5	아도니야가 임금이 되려고 하다 학깃의 아들 아도니야는 “임금이 될 사람은 나야.” 하면서 우쭐대고 있었다. 자신을 위해 전투수레와 기마병뿐만 아니라 자기 앞에서 달리는 호위병 50명도 마련해 두었다.	Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.
6	아도니야의 아버지는 “너, 왜 이런 짓을 저질렀느냐?” 하며 그를 꾸짖은 적이 그의 평생에 없었다. 게다가 그는 아주 잘생기기까지 했다. 그의 어머니는 그를 압살롬 다음에 낳았다.	And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom.
7	아도니야는 스루야의 아들 요압과 아비아달 제사장과 함께 의논을 하곤 했다. 이들이 아도니야를 뒤에서 돕고 있었다.	And he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest: and they following Adonijah helped him.
8	그러나 사독 제사장, 여호야다의 아들 브나야, 나단 예언자, 시므이, 레이, 다윗의 용사들은 아도니야와 함께하지 않았다.	But Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men which belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.
9	아도니야는 양과 소와 통통한 송아지를 잡았다. 엔로겔 곁에 있는 소헬렛의 돌 가까이에서였다. 그러고는 자신의 형제들 곧 왕자들 모두와 유다 사람들 곧 임금의 신하들 모두를 초대했다.	And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En–rogel, and called all his brethren the king’s sons, and all the men of Judah the king’s servants:
10	그러나 나단 예언자와 브나야와 용사들과 자신의 동생 솔로몬은 초대하지 않았다.	But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not.
11	솔로몬이 임금자리에 앉다 나단이 솔로몬의 어머니 밧세바에게 말했다. “못 들으셨습니까? 학깃의 아들 아도니야가 임금이 되었답니다. 그런데도 우리의 주인이신 다윗 임금님은 모르고 계시답니다.	Wherefore Nathan spake unto Bath–sheba the mother of Solomon, saying, Hast thou not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith doth reign, and David our lord knoweth it not?
12	이제 제가 왕비님께 한 말씀 올리겠습니다. 이렇게 하여 왕비님의 목숨과 아드님 솔로몬의 목숨을 구하도록 하십시오.	Now therefore come, let me, I pray thee, give thee counsel, that thou mayest save thine own life, and the life of thy son Solomon.
13	다윗 임금님께 바로 가서 말씀드리십시오. ‘임금님께서, 오 저의 주인이신 임금님, 임금님의 종인 저에게 맹세하여 말씀하지 않으셨습니까, 「그대의 아들 솔로몬이 임금이 되어 내 뒤를 이을 것이오. 그가 나의 임금자리에 앉을 것이오.」라고요? 그런데 어째서 아도니야가 임금이 되었습니까?’	Go and get thee in unto king David, and say unto him, Didst not thou, my lord, O king, swear unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne? why then doth Adonijah reign?
14	바로 그때, 왕비님이 거기서 임금님과 말씀을 나누고 계시는 동안 제가 뒤따라 들어가 왕비님의 말씀을 확실하게 해 드리겠습니다.”	Behold, while thou yet talkest there with the king, I also will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.
15	밧세바는 임금을 만나러 방으로 들어갔다. 임금은 많이 늙었고, 수넴 여자 아비삭이 임금의 시중을 들고 있었다.	And Bath–sheba went in unto the king into the chamber: and the king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite ministered unto the king.
16	밧세바가 무릎 꿇고 임금에게 엎드려 절하자, 임금이 물었다. “무슨 일이 그대에게 있소?”	And Bath–sheba bowed, and did obeisance unto the king. And the king said, What wouldest thou?
17	밧세바가 임금에게 대답했다. “저의 주인님! 임금님께서 여호와 임금님의 하나님을 걸고 임금님의 종인 저에게 맹세하여 말씀하셨지요. ‘그대의 아들 솔로몬이 임금이 되어 내 뒤를 이을 것이오. 그가 나의 임금자리에 앉을 것이오.’라고요.	And she said unto him, My lord, thou swarest by the Lord thy God unto thine handmaid, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne.
18	그런데 이제, 보십시오, 아도니야가 임금이 되었어요. 그런데도 저의 주인이신 임금님께서는 모르고 계세요.	And now, behold, Adonijah reigneth; and now, my lord the king, thou knowest it not:
19	그가 소와 통통한 송아지와 양을 많이 잡고, 왕자들을 모두 초대했어요. 아비아달 제사장과 요압 사령관도요. 그러면서 임금님의 종 솔로몬은 초대하지 않았어요.	And he hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab the captain of the host: but Solomon thy servant hath he not called.
20	그런데 임금님, 저의 주인이신 임금님, 온 이스라엘의 눈이 임금님을 향하고 있어요. 저의 주인이신 임금님의 임금자리에 누가 앉아 임금님의 뒤를 이을지를 널리 알려 주실까 해서요.	And thou, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are upon thee, that thou shouldest tell them who shall sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
21	그런데 저의 주인이신 임금님께서 그냥 조상님들 곁에 누우신다면 문제가 됩니다. 저와 제 아들 솔로몬은 죄를 지은 사람이 됩니다.”	Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.
22	그때, 보라, 밧세바가 아직 임금과 이야기를 나누고 있는데 나단 예언자가 왔다.	And, lo, while she yet talked with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in.
23	누군가가 임금에게 알렸다. “여기, 나단 예언자가 왔습니다.” 그가 임금 앞에 와서, 얼굴이 땅에 닿도록 임금에게 엎드려 절했다.	And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.
24	나단이 말했다. “저의 주인이신 임금님! 임금님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니까, ‘아도니야가 임금이 되어 내 뒤를 이을 것이오. 그가 내 임금자리에 앉을 것이오.’라고요?	And Nathan said, My lord, O king, hast thou said, Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne?
25	오늘 그가 내려가 소와 통통한 송아지와 양을 많이 잡고, 왕자들을 모두 초대했거든요. 군대 지휘관들과 아비아달 제사장도요. 저기, 그들이 지금 아도니야 앞에서 먹고 마시고 있습니다. ‘아도니야 임금님, 만세!’ 하면서요.	For he is gone down this day, and hath slain oxen and fat cattle and sheep in abundance, and hath called all the king’s sons, and the captains of the host, and Abiathar the priest; and, behold, they eat and drink before him, and say, God save king Adonijah.
26	그렇지만 임금님의 종인 저와 사독 제사장과 여호야다의 아들 브나야와 임금님의 종 솔로몬은 그가 초대하지 않았습니다.	But me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and thy servant Solomon, hath he not called.
27	저의 주인이신 임금님한테서 이 일이 비롯된 것입니까? 임금님께서는 임금님의 종인 저에게 알려 주지 않으셨습니다. 누가 저의 주인이신 임금님의 임금자리에 앉아 임금님의 뒤를 이을지를요.”	Is this thing done by my lord the king, and thou hast not shewed it unto thy servant, who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?
28	그러자 다윗 임금이 대답했다. “밧세바를 내 앞으로 불러오시오!” 밧세바가 임금 앞으로 와서 임금 앞에 섰다.	Then king David answered and said, Call me Bath–sheba. And she came into the king’s presence, and stood before the king.
29	임금은 맹세하며 말했다. “온갖 어려움에서 내 목숨을 구해 내 주신 여호와께서 살아 계심을 걸고 맹세하오.	And the king sware, and said, As the Lord liveth, that hath redeemed my soul out of all distress,
30	내가 그대에게 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님을 걸고 맹세하여 이렇게 말했지요. ‘그대의 아들 솔로몬이 임금이 되어 내 뒤를 이을 것이오. 그가 내 임금자리에 앉아 내 뒤를 이을 것이오.’ 참으로 그대로 내가 해 주겠소, 오늘 당장!”	Even as I sware unto thee by the Lord God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon thy son shall reign after me, and he shall sit upon my throne in my stead; even so will I certainly do this day.
31	그러자 밧세바는 무릎을 꿇고 얼굴이 땅에 닿도록 엎드려, 임금에게 절하면서 외쳤다. “저의 주인 다윗 임금님, 만만세!”	Then Bath–sheba bowed with her face to the earth, and did reverence to the king, and said, Let my lord king David live for ever.
32	다윗 임금은 말했다. “사독 제사장과 나단 예언자와 여호야다의 아들 브나야를 불러오너라.” 그리하여 그들이 임금 앞에 왔다.	And king David said, Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada. And they came before the king.
33	임금이 그들에게 말했다. “그대들 주인의 신하들을 함께 데리고 가세요. 나의 아들 솔로몬을 내가 가진 노새에 태워 기혼으로 내려가세요.	The king also said unto them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon mine own mule, and bring him down to Gihon:
34	거기서 사독 제사장과 나단 예언자는 그에게 기름을 부어 이스라엘 위에 임금으로 삼으세요. 그러고서 뿔나팔을 불고 외치세요. ‘솔로몬 임금님, 만세!’	And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon.
35	그런 다음 그를 뒤따라 올라오세요. 그가 와서 나의 임금자리에 앉을 겁니다. 그가 임금이 되어 내 뒤를 이을 겁니다. 바로 그를, 내가 이스라엘과 유다의 지도자가 되도록 지정했어요.”	Then ye shall come up after him, that he may come and sit upon my throne; for he shall be king in my stead: and I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and over Judah.
36	여호야다의 아들 브나야가 임금에게 대답하여 말했다. “아멘! 여호와 저의 주인이신 임금님의 하나님도 그렇게 말씀해 주시기 바랍니다.	And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king, and said, Amen: the Lord God of my lord the king say so too.
37	여호와께서 저의 주인이신 임금님과 함께 계셨던 것처럼 솔로몬과도 함께 계시기 바랍니다. 그의 임금자리를 저의 주인이신 다윗 임금님의 임금자리보다 더 크게 해 주시기 바랍니다.”	As the Lord hath been with my lord the king, even so be he with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord king David.
38	사독 제사장이 내려갔다. 나단 예언자, 여호야다의 아들 브나야, 그렛 사람들, 블렛 사람들이 함께했다. 그들은 솔로몬을 다윗 임금의 노새에 태워 기혼으로 데려갔다.	So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon king David’s mule, and brought him to Gihon.
39	사독 제사장은 기름이 든 뿔을 천막에서 가져다가 솔로몬에게 기름을 부어 주었다. 그들이 뿔나팔을 불자 온 백성이 외쳤다. “솔로몬 임금님, 만세!”	And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon.
40	온 백성이 그를 뒤따라 올라갔다. 백성은 피리를 불며 크게 즐거워하고 있었다. 그들의 소리에 땅이 쩍 갈라질 정도였다.	And all the people came up after him, and the people piped with pipes, and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth rent with the sound of them.
41	아도니야가 그 소리를 들었다. 그의 초대를 받아 그와 함께 있던 사람들도 모두 들었다. 그들이 식사를 끝내던 참이었다. 요압이 뿔나팔 소리를 듣고 말했다. “성읍 안에서 나는 소리가 어째서 시끄러운가요?”	And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar?
42	그가 아직 말하고 있는 도중에, 저기, 아비아달 제사장의 아들 요나단이 온 것이 아닌가! 아도니야가 말했다. “어서 오시게. 그대는 믿음직한 사람이야. 좋은 소식을 알리려는 것이지?”	And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came: and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings.
43	요나단이 아도니야에게 대답하여 말했다. “그런 것이 아니라, 우리의 주인이신 다윗 임금님께서 솔로몬을 임금으로 세우셨습니다.	And Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, Verily our lord king David hath made Solomon king.
44	임금님께서 솔로몬과 함께 사독 제사장, 나단 예언자, 여호야다의 아들 브나야, 그렛 사람들과 블렛 사람들을 보내셨습니다. 그들이 솔로몬을 임금님의 노새에 태웠습니다.	And the king hath sent with him Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and they have caused him to ride upon the king’s mule:
45	사독 제사장과 나단 예언자가 기혼에서 그에게 기름을 부어 주었습니다. 그래서 그가 임금이 되게 했습니다. 그러고 나서 그들은 그곳을 떠나 즐거워하며 올라갔습니다. 그래서 성읍이 시끌벅적해진 것입니다. 여러분이 들으신 소리는 바로 이 소리입니다.	And Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king in Gihon: and they are come up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again. This is the noise that ye have heard.
46	게다가 솔로몬은 임금으로 다스리는 자리에 앉았습니다.	And also Solomon sitteth on the throne of the kingdom.
47	또한 임금님의 신하들이 와서 우리의 주인이신 다윗 임금님을 축복하며 이렇게 말했습니다. ‘임금님의 하나님이 솔로몬의 이름을 임금님의 이름보다 더 훌륭하게 해 주시기 바랍니다. 그의 임금자리를 임금님의 임금자리보다 더 크게 해 주시기 바랍니다.’ 그러자 다윗 임금님께서 침대에서 엎드려 절하셨습니다.	And moreover the king’s servants came to bless our lord king David, saying, God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne. And the king bowed himself upon the bed.
48	또한 임금님께서 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘찬양받으실 만합니다, 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님은! 오늘 나의 임금자리에 앉을 사람을 주셔서 저의 두 눈으로 보게 하셨습니다.’”	And also thus said the king, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, which hath given one to sit on my throne this day, mine eyes even seeing it.
49	아도니야의 초대를 받아 그와 함께 있던 사람들은 모두 벌벌 떨면서 일어났다. 저마다 자기 갈 길로 가 버렸다.	And all the guests that were with Adonijah were afraid, and rose up, and went every man his way.
50	아도니야는 솔로몬이 무서웠다. 그래서 일어나 가서 제단의 뿔을 붙잡았다.	And Adonijah feared because of Solomon, and arose, and went, and caught hold on the horns of the altar.
51	누군가 솔로몬에게 알려 주었다. “저기, 아도니야가 솔로몬 임금님을 무서워하고 있습니다. 그래서, 저기, 제단의 뿔을 붙들고는 이렇게 말하고 있습니다. ‘오늘 나한테 솔로몬 임금님이 맹세해 주시기 바랍니다, 그의 종인 나를 칼로 죽이지 않겠다고.’”	And it was told Solomon, saying, Behold, Adonijah feareth king Solomon: for, lo, he hath caught hold on the horns of the altar, saying, Let king Solomon swear unto me to day that he will not slay his servant with the sword.
52	솔로몬이 말했다. “그가 충성스러운 사람이 된다면, 그의 머리카락 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 않을 것이오. 그렇지만 악한 것이 그에게서 드러나면 그는 목숨을 잃을 것이오.”	And Solomon said, If he will shew himself a worthy man, there shall not an hair of him fall to the earth: but if wickedness shall be found in him, he shall die.
53	솔로몬 임금이 사람을 보내 그를 제단에서 내려오게 했다. 그는 솔로몬 임금 앞에 와서 엎드려 절했다. 그러자 솔로몬은 그에게 말했다. “당신 집으로 가시오!”	So king Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. And he came and bowed himself to king Solomon: and Solomon said unto him, Go to thine house.
