1	바다 쪽으로 요르단강 건너편에 있는 아모리 사람들의 모든 임금과 바닷가에 있는 가나안 사람들의 모든 임금이 소식을 들었다. 여호와께서 이스라엘 사람들 앞에서 요르단강 물을 마르게 해 주셔서 그들이 마침내 건넜다는 것이다. 그래서 이 임금들은 이스라엘 사람들 때문에 그들의 심장이 덜컥 내려앉아 더는 정신을 차릴 수 없었다.	And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
2	이스라엘 남자들이 길갈에서 할례를 받다 그때 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. “부싯돌로 칼을 만들어, 다시 이스라엘 남자들이 두 번째로 할례받게 하여라.”	At that time the Lord said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
3	여호수아는 부싯돌로 칼을 만들어 이스라엘 남자들이 할례받게 했다. 아랄롯 언덕에서였다.	And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
4	여호수아가 남자들을 할례받게 한 까닭이 있었다. 이집트에서 빠져나온 모든 백성 가운데서 남자 곧 군인은 이집트에서 빠져나와 광야 길을 걷는 동안 모두 죽었기 때문이다.	And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.
5	이집트에서 빠져나온 남자는 모두 할례받은 사람들이었다. 그렇지만 이집트에서 빠져나와 광야 길을 걷는 동안 태어난 남자는 아무도 할례받지 않았던 것이다.	Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.
6	40년 동안 이스라엘 사람들이 광야에서 걸었다. 결국 온 겨레, 곧 이집트에서 빠져나온 이들로 전쟁에 나갈 만한 남자들은 다 죽었다. 그들은 여호와의 목소리를 듣지 않았기 때문에, 그들이 그 땅을 보지 못하게 하겠다고 여호와께서 단단히 말씀하셨던 것이다. 그 땅은 여호와께서 우리에게 주기로 우리 조상들에게 굳게 약속하신 땅, 젖이 흐르고 꿀이 있는 땅이다.	For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: unto whom the Lord sware that he would not shew them the land, which the Lord sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
7	여호와께서 그들 대신에 자손이 일어나게 해 주셨고, 여호수아는 그들이 할례받게 했다. 그들은 할례받지 않은 사람들이었기 때문이다. 길에서 할례하지 못해서였다.	And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.
8	온 겨레가 할례받는 일이 끝나자, 상처가 아물 때까지 진영의 자기 자리에 머물렀다.	And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.
9	여호와께서 여호수아에게 또 말씀하셨다. “이집트에서 겪은 치욕을 오늘 너희한테서 굴려서 치워 버렸다.” 그리하여 그곳 이름을 오늘까지 길갈이라고 한다.	And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.
10	이스라엘 사람들은 길갈에 진을 치고, 넘는명절(유월절)을 그달 열넷째 날 저녁에 여리고 벌판에서 지켰다.	And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.
11	그들은 넘는명절(유월절) 바로 다음날에 그 땅이 내는 것을 먹었다. 누룩없는빵(무교병)과 볶은 곡식을 바로 이날에 먹었다.	And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.
12	그 땅이 내는 것을 먹은 다음날에 만나가 그쳐서 이스라엘 사람들에게 더는 없었다. 그해에 그들은 가나안 땅에서 난 것을 먹었다.	And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
13	여호와의 군대 지휘관을 만나다 여호수아가 여리고에 이르러 눈을 들어 보니, 거기, 자기 앞에 누군가 칼을 뽑아 손에 들고 서 있는 것이 아닌가! 여호수아가 그에게 다가가 물었다. “장군님은 우리 편인가요, 적의 편인가요?”	And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14	그가 대답했다. “그런 게 아닙니다. 나는 여호와의 군대 지휘관입니다. 이제 막 왔습니다.” 여호수아가 땅에 엎드려 절하고는 또 물었다. “지휘관님, 저에게 무슨 말씀을 하시려는 것인가요?”	And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
15	여호와의 군대를 이끌 지휘관이 여호수아에게 대답했다. “발에서 샌들을 벗으세요. 그대가 서 있는 곳은 거룩한 장소입니다.” 여호수아가 그렇게 했다.	And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
