1	여러분이 공의로워서가 아닙니다 “그대 이스라엘, 들으십시오. 그대는 오늘 요르단을 건너가서 그대보다 더 크고 강한 민족들을 몰아낼 것입니다. 도시들은 크고 튼튼하며 하늘에 닿을 듯 우뚝 솟았습니다.	Hear, O Israel: Thou art to pass over Jordan this day, to go in to possess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fenced up to heaven,
2	몸이 크고 키가 큰 백성은 아낙 사람들입니다. 그대가 알고 있는 사람들입니다. ‘누가 아낙 사람들과 맞설 수 있겠는가?’ 하고 말하는 것을 그대도 들어 보았습니다.	A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak!
3	그렇지만 오늘 그대가 아는 대로, 여호와 그대의 하나님이야말로 삼키는 불처럼 그대 앞에서 건너가시는 분이십니다. 그분이 그들을 망하게 해 주시고, 그분이 그들을 그대 앞에 무릎 꿇게 해 주실 것입니다. 그러므로 그대는 그들을 몰아내어, 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로 그들을 빨리 뿌리 뽑아야 합니다.	Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord hath said unto thee.
4	여호와 그대의 하나님이 그들을 그대 앞에서 내쫓아 주실 때, 그대 마음속으로 이렇게 말하지 마십시오. ‘내가 공의롭기 때문에 여호와께서 나를 이끌어 들이시고 이 땅을 차지하게 하셨구나.’ 아닙니다! 이 민족들이 악하여서 여호와께서 그들을 그대 앞에서 몰아내 주시는 것입니다.	Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee.
5	그대가 공의롭고 그대의 마음이 올곧기 때문에 그대가 들어가 그들의 땅을 차지하는 것이 아닙니다. 이 민족들이 악하여서 여호와 그대의 하나님이 그들을 그대 앞에서 몰아내시는 것입니다. 또 그래서 여호와께서 그대의 조상들, 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 굳게 약속하신 말씀을 이루시려는 것입니다.	Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
6	그러므로 그대는 알아야 합니다. 그대가 공의롭기 때문에 여호와 그대의 하나님이 이 좋은 땅을 그대에게 주어 차지하게 해 주시는 것이 아니라는 것을요. 정말이지 그대는 목이 뻣뻣한 백성이니까요.”	Understand therefore, that the Lord thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.
7	그대들은 여호와를 늘 거슬렀습니다 “기억하십시오! 잊지 마십시오! 그대는 광야에서 여호와 그대의 하나님을 화나시게 했습니다. 이집트 땅에서 나오던 날부터 이곳에 이르기까지 그대들은 여호와를 거슬렀습니다.	Remember, and forget not, how thou provokedst the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, until ye came unto this place, ye have been rebellious against the Lord.
8	호렙에서 그대들은 여호와를 화나시게 했고, 여호와께서는 그대들에게 화가 나서 그대들을 없애 버리려고 하셨습니다.	Also in Horeb ye provoked the Lord to wrath, so that the Lord was angry with you to have destroyed you.
9	그때 나는 여호와께서 그대들과 함께 맺으신 언약을 기록한 돌판을 받으려고, 그 산에 올라가 있었습니다. 40일 밤낮을 그 산에 머무르고 있었습니다. 빵도 먹지 않고 물도 마시지 않았습니다.	When I was gone up into the mount to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which the Lord made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:
10	여호와께서는 자신의 손가락으로 무언가를 적어 두신 돌판 둘을 나에게 주셨습니다. 이 돌판에는, 그 모임의 날에 그 산의 불길 가운데서 여호와께서 그대들에게 말씀하신 모든 말씀이 적혀 있었습니다.	And the Lord delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which the Lord spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.
11	40일 밤낮이 지나자 여호와께서 두 돌판 곧 언약의 돌판을 나에게 주셨습니다.	And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that the Lord gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.
12	그런데 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘일어나 여기서 빨리 내려가거라! 너의 백성 곧 네가 이집트에서 데리고 나온 백성이 썩어 빠졌다. 내가 그들에게 따르라고 명령한 길에서 그렇게나 빨리 벗어나서 자신들을 위해 우상을 만들었다.’	And the Lord said unto me, Arise, get thee down quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.
13	여호와께서 나에게 말씀하셨습니다. ‘내가 이 백성을 보았다. 그런데, 이것 봐, 목이 뻣뻣한 백성이다.	Furthermore the Lord spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
14	나를 말리지 마라. 내가 그들을 없애 버려서 그들의 이름을 하늘 아래에서 지워 버릴 것이다. 그리고 너를 그보다 더 강하고 수가 더 많은 민족으로 만들 것이다.’	Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
15	나는 돌아서서 산에서 내려왔습니다. 산은 불타고 있었고, 나는 언약의 두 돌판을 양손에 들고 있었습니다.	So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.
16	나는 보았습니다. 아, 그대들이 여호와 그대들의 하나님께 죄짓다니요! 그대들 자신을 위해서 수송아지 우상을 만들다니요! 그렇게나 빨리 벗어나다니요, 여호와께서 그대들에게 따르라고 명령하신 길에서!	And I looked, and, behold, ye had sinned against the Lord your God, and had made you a molten calf: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
17	나는 두 돌판을 두 손으로 단단히 쥐고서는 그대들에게로 내던져, 그대들 눈앞에서 조각조각 내어 버렸습니다.	And I took the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.
18	그러고는 이전처럼 40일 밤낮을 여호와 앞에 납작 엎드렸습니다. 빵도 먹지 않고 물도 마시지 않았습니다. 그대들이 지은 모든 죄 때문이었습니다. 그대들은 여호와 보시기에 나쁜 짓을 저질러서 여호와를 노엽게 한 것입니다.	And I fell down before the Lord, as at the first, forty days and forty nights: I did neither eat bread, nor drink water, because of all your sins which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
19	나는 겁이 났습니다. 여호와께서 크게 노여워하셔서 그대들을 없애 버리려고 하셨기 때문입니다. 그런데 여호와께서는 이번에도 내가 아뢴 말씀을 들으셨습니다.	For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, wherewith the Lord was wroth against you to destroy you. But the Lord hearkened unto me at that time also.
20	여호와께서 아론에게 매우 화가 나서 그를 없애 버리려고 하셨습니다. 그래서 나는 그때 아론을 위해서도 빌었습니다.	And the Lord was very angry with Aaron to have destroyed him: and I prayed for Aaron also the same time.
21	그대들이 저지른 죄의 증거물인 수송아지 우상은 내가 끄집어내다가 불에 태웠습니다. 그러고는 깨뜨리고 잘 빻아 마침내 흙먼지처럼 가루로 만들었습니다. 그 가루를 산에서 흘러내리는 시내에 뿌렸습니다.	And I took your sin, the calf which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, even until it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust thereof into the brook that descended out of the mount.
22	다베라와 맛사와 기브롯핫다아와에서도 그대들은 여호와를 화나시게 했습니다.	And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth–hattaavah, ye provoked the Lord to wrath.
23	여호와께서 가데스바르네아에서 그대들을 보내면서 말씀하셨습니다. ‘올라가서 내가 너희에게 준 땅을 차지해라!’ 그런데 그대들은 여호와 그대들의 하나님의 말씀을 거슬렀습니다. 그분을 믿지 않았고, 그분의 목소리를 듣지 않았습니다.	Likewise when the Lord sent you from Kadesh–barnea, saying, Go up and possess the land which I have given you; then ye rebelled against the commandment of the Lord your God, and ye believed him not, nor hearkened to his voice.
24	그대들은 내가 그대들을 알던 날부터 여호와를 거슬러 왔습니다.”	Ye have been rebellious against the Lord from the day that I knew you.
25	그대들을 살려 달라고 빌었습니다 “나는 40일 밤낮을 이전처럼 여호와 앞에 납작 엎드렸습니다. 여호와께서 그대들을 없애 버리겠다고 말씀하셨기 때문입니다.	Thus I fell down before the Lord forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because the Lord had said he would destroy you.
26	나는 여호와께 빌면서 말씀드렸습니다. ‘주 여호와여, 주님의 백성, 주님이 주님의 몫으로 삼으신 백성을 망하게 하셔서는 안 됩니다! 주님의 큰 힘으로 빼내어 주신 백성이요, 주님의 강한 손으로 이집트에서 이끌어 올리신 백성을 말입니다.	I prayed therefore unto the Lord, and said, O Lord God, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, which thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
27	기억해 주십시오. 주님의 종들 곧 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱을요! 이 백성의 고집스러움과 불의함과 죄를 따지셔서는 안 됩니다!	Remember thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; look not unto the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin:
28	주님께서 우리를 이끌어 내신 그 땅의 사람들이 이렇게 말하지 못하게 해 주십시오! 「여호와는 자신이 약속한 땅으로 그들을 데려다줄 수 없었어. 또 그들을 미워했어. 그래서 그들을 데리고 나가서 광야에서 죽이려 한 거야.」	Lest the land whence thou broughtest us out say, Because the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he hath brought them out to slay them in the wilderness.
29	그렇지만 그들은 주님의 백성이요, 주님이 자신의 몫으로 삼으신 백성입니다. 주님의 큰 힘과 펴신 팔로 데리고 나오신 백성이고요.’”	Yet they are thy people and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest out by thy mighty power and by thy stretched out arm.
