1	이스라엘이 베냐민 사람들을 쳐부수다 이스라엘 사람들이 다 나와서 무리가 모였다. 단에서부터 브엘세바와 길르앗 땅까지 하나같이 여호와께로, 미스바로 왔다.	Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beer–sheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the Lord in Mizpeh.
2	온 백성 곧 이스라엘 모든 지파의 지도자들이 하나님의 백성으로 모인 무리 가운데 자리 잡고 섰다. 칼로 무장한 보병이 400,000명이었다.	And the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.
3	베냐민 사람들은 이스라엘 사람들이 미스바로 올라갔다는 소식을 들었다. 이스라엘 사람들이 말했다. “이런 나쁜 일이 어떻게 일어났는지 말해 보시오.”	(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpeh.) Then said the children of Israel, Tell us, how was this wickedness?
4	목숨을 잃은 여자의 남편인 레위 사람이 대답했다. “베냐민의 기브아로 제가 저의 다른 아내를 데리고 묵으러 갔습니다.	And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
5	그런데 기브아의 주인들이 일어나서 저 때문에 제가 있던 집을 밤에 에워쌌습니다. 저를 죽이려 했던 것입니다. 그러다가 그들이 저의 다른 아내를 욕보였고, 그가 죽었습니다.	And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me: and my concubine have they forced, that she is dead.
6	저는 제 다른 아내의 주검을 붙잡고 토막 내어 이스라엘이 나누어 받은 온 지역에 보냈습니다. 그들이 이스라엘에서 지저분하고도 어처구니없는 짓을 저질렀기 때문입니다.	And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
7	여기 계신 여러분은 모두 이스라엘 사람들입니다. 이 자리에서 말씀들을 나누시고 의논해 주십시오.”	Behold, ye are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.
8	온 백성이 하나같이 일어나서 말했다. “아무도 자기 천막으로 가지 맙시다. 아무도 자기 집으로 돌아가지 맙시다.	And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn into his house.
9	이제 우리가 기브아에 할 일은 이렇습니다. 그 일을 두고 제비를 뽑읍시다.	But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it;
10	이스라엘의 모든 지파 가운데서 백에 열, 천에 백, 만에 천 사람을 뽑읍시다. 그 사람들에게 길양식을 주어 베냐민의 기브아로 가게 합시다. 그래서 베냐민 사람들이 이스라엘에서 저지른 어처구니없는 짓을 그대로 되갚아 주게 합시다.”	And we will take ten men of an hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and an hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victual for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.
11	이스라엘 사람들이 그 도시에 맞서려고 다 모였다. 하나같이 뜻을 함께했다.	So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
12	이스라엘 지파들이 베냐민의 모든 지파에 사람들을 보내 말했다. “여러분 가운데서 이런 나쁜 일이 일어나다니, 어찌 된 일입니까?	And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is done among you?
13	기브아의 몹쓸 사람들을 이제 내주세요. 그러면 우리가 그들을 죽여서, 이런 나쁜 짓을 이스라엘에서 뿌리 뽑아 버리겠습니다.” 그러나 베냐민 사람들이 자신들의 형제 이스라엘 사람들의 말을 들으려고 하지 않았다.	Now therefore deliver us the men, the children of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But the children of Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel:
14	베냐민 사람들이 여러 도시에서 기브아로 모였다. 나가서 이스라엘 사람들과 전쟁을 하려는 것이었다.	But the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
15	그날 여러 도시에서 온 베냐민 사람들의 수를 조사했다. 칼로 무장한 사람이 26,000명이었다. 그 밖에 기브아에 사는 사람들 가운데서도 조사했다. 700명이 뽑혔다.	And the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
16	이 모든 사람 가운데서 뽑힌 700명은 왼손잡이였다. 이들은 모두 머리카락을 향해 돌팔매를 날려도 빗나가지 않는 사람들이었다.	Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at an hair breadth, and not miss.
17	베냐민 사람들과는 따로 이스라엘 사람들 가운데서 칼로 무장한 사람들을 조사했는데, 400,000명이었다. 이들은 모두 전쟁에 유능한 사람이었다.	And the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.
18	이스라엘 사람들이 일어나 베델로 올라가서 하나님께 여쭈었다. “우리 가운데 맨 먼저 올라가서 베냐민 사람들과 싸울 사람은 누구입니까?” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “유다가 맨 먼저여야 한다.”	And the children of Israel arose, and went up to the house of God, and asked counsel of God, and said, Which of us shall go up first to the battle against the children of Benjamin? And the Lord said, Judah shall go up first.
19	이스라엘 사람들이 아침에 일어나서 기브아 앞에 진을 쳤다.	And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
20	이스라엘 사람들이 베냐민과 싸움을 벌이려고 나갔고, 이스라엘 사람들이 싸우려고 줄지어 나서서 기브아를 공격했다.	And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel put themselves in array to fight against them at Gibeah.
21	그러자 베냐민 사람들이 기브아에서 나와 그날 이스라엘을 무찔렀다. 22,000명이 땅에 쓰러졌다.	And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites that day twenty and two thousand men.
22	이스라엘 사람들은 힘을 내어 다시 싸우려고 줄지어 나섰다. 첫날 줄지어 나선 곳에서였다.	And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day.
23	이스라엘 사람들은 올라가서 여호와 앞에서 저녁까지 울고는 여호와께 여쭈었다. “우리 형제 베냐민 사람들과 싸우러 다시 나아가야 합니까?” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “그들이 있는 데로 올라가라!”	(And the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until even, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And the Lord said, Go up against him.)
24	이스라엘 사람들은 베냐민 사람들에게 다가갔다. 둘째 날이었다.	And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
25	베냐민이 기브아에서 나와 그들을 맞았다. 둘째 날이었다. 베냐민 사람들이 이스라엘 사람들을 무찔러, 다시 18,000명이 땅에 쓰러졌다. 이들은 모두 칼로 무장한 사람들이었다.	And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
26	모든 이스라엘 사람 곧 온 백성이 함께 올라갔다. 베델로 가서 울었다. 거기서 여호와 앞에 앉아 그날 저녁까지 금식했다. 다태우는제물(번제물)과 평화제물(화목제물)을 여호와 앞에 바쳤다.	Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the Lord, and fasted that day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.
27	이스라엘 사람들이 여호와께 여쭈었다. 그 시대에는 거기에 하나님의 언약상자가 있었다.	And the children of Israel enquired of the Lord, (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
28	엘르아살의 아들이자 아론의 손자인 비느하스가 그 시대에 하나님을 받들어 모시는 사람이었다. 그가 여쭈었다. “우리 형제 베냐민 사람들과 싸우러 다시 나가야 합니까, 그만두어야 합니까?” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “올라가라! 내일 내가 그들을 너의 손에 넘겨주겠다.”	And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days,) saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And the Lord said, Go up; for to morrow I will deliver them into thine hand.
29	이스라엘은 기브아 둘레에 사람들을 숨겨 두고 기다리게 했다.	And Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah.
30	그러고는 이스라엘 사람들이 베냐민 사람들 있는 데로 올라갔다. 셋째 날이었다. 지난 여러 번처럼 싸우려고 줄지어 나서서 기브아를 공격했다.	And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
31	베냐민 사람들이 나와서 이 사람들을 마주했고, 꼬임에 빠져 그 도시에서 멀리 벗어났다. 지난 여러 번처럼 이스라엘 사람 얼마를 쓰러뜨리기 시작했다. 한 길은 베델로, 다른 한 길은 기브아로 올라가는 들판의 큰길에서였다. 이스라엘에서 30명쯤 쓰러졌다.	And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite of the people, and kill, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to the house of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
32	베냐민 사람들이 말했다. “이들이 이전처럼 우리 앞에서 무너지고 있군.” 그러나 이스라엘 사람들은 이렇게 말했다. “달아나자! 이들이 꼬임에 빠져 도시에서 큰길로 나오게 하자!”	And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them from the city unto the highways.
33	이스라엘 사람들이 모두 제자리에서 일어나 바알다말에서 줄지어 나섰다. 숨어 기다리던 이스라엘 사람들도 제자리에서 쏟아져 나왔다. 기브아 숲속의 빈터에서였다.	And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baal–tamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.
34	기브아 맞은편에는 온 이스라엘에서 뽑은 10,000명이 몰려왔다. 큰 싸움이 벌어졌다. 베냐민 사람들은 자신들에게 재난이 닥치고 있는 줄 알지 못했다.	And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was near them.
35	여호와께서 베냐민을 이스라엘 앞에서 무너지게 하셨고, 이스라엘 사람들은 베냐민을 그날 무찔렀다. 25,100명이 쓰러졌다. 이들은 모두 칼로 무장한 사람들이었다.	And the Lord smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.
36	베냐민 사람들은 자신들이 무너졌다는 것을 알았다. 이스라엘 사람들이 베냐민에게 자리를 내주었던 것이다. 기브아를 공격하려고 숨겨 두고 기다리게 한 사람들을 믿었기 때문이다.	So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set beside Gibeah.
37	숨어 기다리던 사람들이 재빨리 기브아를 덮쳤다. 숨어 기다리던 사람들은 들어가서 온 도시를 날카로운 칼로 쳐부수었다.	And the liers in wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.
38	이스라엘 사람들에게는 숨어 기다리던 사람들과 약속해 둔 것이 있었다. 그 도시에서 연기를 크게 피워 올리기로 한 것이다.	Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.
39	이스라엘 사람들은 싸우다가 물러났다. 베냐민 사람들이 이스라엘 사람을 30명쯤 쳐서 쓰러뜨리기 시작했다. 그들은 “이전 싸움처럼 이들이 우리 앞에서 아주 무너지고 있음이 틀림없어.” 하고 말했다.	And when the men of Israel retired in the battle, Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons: for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.
40	그런데 그 도시에서 연기가 기둥처럼 피어오르기 시작했다. 베냐민 사람들이 뒤돌아보았다. 저기, 연기가 도시를 온통 휩싼 채 하늘로 치솟고 있는 것이 아닌가!	But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven.
41	그러자 이스라엘 사람들이 돌아섰고, 베냐민 사람들은 깜짝 놀랐다. 자신들에게 재난이 닥쳤다는 것을 깨달았기 때문이다.	And when the men of Israel turned again, the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.
42	그래서 이스라엘 사람들 앞에서 돌아서서 광야 길로 갔다. 그렇지만 뒤쫓는 사람들과 계속 싸워야 했다. 여러 도시에서 나온 사람들도 그런 가운데서 그들을 무찔렀다.	Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.
43	이스라엘 사람들은 베냐민 사람들을 둘러싼 채로 누하에서 동쪽으로 기브아 맞은편까지 뒤쫓아 가서 따라잡았다.	Thus they inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trode them down with ease over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.
44	베냐민 가운데서 18,000명이 쓰러졌다. 이들은 모두 용사였다.	And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour.
45	그들은 광야의 림몬 바위로 달아났다. 이스라엘 사람들은 5,000명을 큰길에서 이삭 줍듯 하고, 기드옴까지 따라붙어 2,000명을 쳐 죽였다.	And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them.
46	그날 베냐민 가운데서 쓰러진 사람들은 모두 25,000명인데, 칼로 무장한 사람들이었다. 이들은 모두 용사였다.	So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.
47	광야의 림몬 바위로 달아난 사람들은 600명이었다. 그들은 림몬 바위에서 4개월 동안 살았다.	But six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness unto the rock Rimmon, and abode in the rock Rimmon four months.
48	이스라엘 사람들은 베냐민 사람들에게 돌아와서, 도시에서 사람이든 집짐승이든 마주치는 족족 날카로운 칼로 쳐 죽였다. 또한 여러 도시도 마주치는 족족 불태워 버렸다.	And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beast, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they came to.
