1	이스보셋이 죽음을 당하다 사울의 아들이 들었다. 아브넬이 헤브론에서 죽었다는 것이었다. 그 소식에 그 손에서 힘이 쫙 빠졌다. 온 이스라엘은 겁을 집어먹었다.	And when Saul’s son heard that Abner was dead in Hebron, his hands were feeble, and all the Israelites were troubled.
2	사울의 아들에게는 기습 부대 지휘관 두 사람이 있었다. 한 사람의 이름은 바아나였다. 다른 한 사람의 이름은 레갑이었다. 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들들이었는데 베냐민 사람들에 속했다. 브에롯도 베냐민 가운데 있는 것으로 여겼기 때문이다.	And Saul’s son had two men that were captains of bands: the name of the one was Baanah, and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon a Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin: (for Beeroth also was reckoned to Benjamin:
3	브에롯 사람들은 깃다임으로 달아나 오늘까지 거기서 이주민으로 살고 있다.	And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)
4	사울의 아들 요나단에게는 아들이 있었는데 다리에 문제가 있었다. 그가 다섯 살이었을 때, 사울과 요나단이 죽었다는 소식이 이스르엘에서 왔다. 그의 유모가 그를 안고 달아났다. 그런데 유모가 달아나려고 서두르다가 일이 일어났다. 아이가 떨어져 걷는 데 장애가 생긴 것이다. 그의 이름은 므비보셋이었다.	And Jonathan, Saul’s son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
5	브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들들인 레갑과 바아나가 길을 떠났다. 그들은 한낮에 이스보셋의 집에 이르렀다. 그는 낮잠을 자고 있었다.	And the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, Rechab and Baanah, went, and came about the heat of the day to the house of Ish–bosheth, who lay on a bed at noon.
6	그들은 밀을 가지러 온 사람들처럼 하고서, 집 한가운데까지 들어가 그의 배를 찔렀다. 그러고서 레갑과 그의 형제 바아나는 빠져나갔다.	And they came thither into the midst of the house, as though they would have fetched wheat; and they smote him under the fifth rib: and Rechab and Baanah his brother escaped.
7	그들이 그 집에 들어갔을 때 이스보셋은 침실 안의 침대 위에 누워 있었다. 그래서 그들은 그를 쳐 죽이고 그의 목을 벤 것이다. 그러고 나서 그의 머리를 들고 밤새도록 아라바 길로 걸어갔다.	For when they came into the house, he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, and they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him, and took his head, and gat them away through the plain all night.
8	그들은 이스보셋의 머리를 헤브론으로 다윗에게 가져왔다. 그들이 임금에게 말했다. “여기 있습니다. 이스보셋의 머리입니다. 임금님의 원수 사울의 아들이지요. 사울은 임금님의 목숨을 노리던 사람이었고요. 여호와께서 오늘 저의 주인이신 임금님을 대신해 사울과 그의 후손에게 되갚아 주셨습니다.”	And they brought the head of Ish–bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold the head of Ish–bosheth the son of Saul thine enemy, which sought thy life; and the Lord hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.
9	다윗이 브에롯 사람 림몬의 아들들인 레갑과 그의 형제 바아나에게 대답했다. “온갖 어려움에서 나의 목숨을 건져 주신 여호와께서 살아 계심을 걸고 말한다.	And David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the Lord liveth, who hath redeemed my soul out of all adversity,
10	‘아, 사울이 죽었습니다.’ 하며 나한테 알려 준 사람이 있었네. 그 사람은 스스로를, 기쁜 소식을 전해 주는 사람처럼 될 것이라 생각했지. 나는 시글락에서 그 사람을 잡아서 죽였어. 소식을 듣고 내가 그 사람한테 해 준 것이 이런 일이었지.	When one told me, saying, Behold, Saul is dead, thinking to have brought good tidings, I took hold of him, and slew him in Ziklag, who thought that I would have given him a reward for his tidings:
11	그런데 더구나 악인들이 자기 집 자기 눕자리에 있는 의인을 죽이다니! 그러니 이제 내가 그의 죽음에 대한 책임을 그대들에게 묻지 않을 수 있겠나? 그대들을 이 땅에서 없애 버리지 않을 수 있겠나?”	How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous person in his own house upon his bed? shall I not therefore now require his blood of your hand, and take you away from the earth?
12	다윗이 젊은이들에게 명령했다. 그들을 죽여 손과 발을 자르게 했다. 헤브론에 있는 연못가에 매달게 했다. 그리고 이스보셋의 머리를 가져다가 헤브론에 있는 아브넬의 무덤에서 장례를 치러 주었다.	And David commanded his young men, and they slew them, and cut off their hands and their feet, and hanged them up over the pool in Hebron. But they took the head of Ish–bosheth, and buried it in the sepulchre of Abner in Hebron.
