1	다윗이 헤브론으로 올라가다 그런 다음 다윗은 여호와께 여쭈었다. “제가 유다 도시 가운데 한 곳으로 올라갈까요?” 여호와께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. “올라가라.” 다윗이 다시 여쭈었다. “어디로 올라갈까요?” 여호와께서 대답하셨다. “헤브론이다.”	And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
2	다윗은 거기로 올라갔다. 그의 두 아내인 이스르엘 사람 아히노암과 갈멜 사람 나발의 아내였던 아비가일도 함께 갔다.	So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal’s wife the Carmelite.
3	함께 있던 사람들도 다윗이 데리고 올라갔다. 저마다 딸린 식구들을 데려왔다. 그들은 헤브론 가까이 있는 여러 도시에 살았다.	And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
4	유다 사람들이 왔다. 그들은 거기서 다윗을 유다 집안을 다스리는 임금으로 기름부어 세웠다. 그들이 다윗에게 알려 주었다. “사울의 장례를 치러 준 사람들은 길르앗의 야베스 사람들입니다.”	And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabesh–gilead were they that buried Saul.
5	다윗은 길르앗의 야베스 사람들에게 심부름꾼들을 보내서 말했다. “여러분은 여호와께 복받을 것입니다. 여러분의 주인이신 사울에게 이런 한결같은 사랑을 베풀어 그의 장례를 치러 주셨으니까요.	And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh–gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
6	이제 여호와께서 여러분에게 한결같은 사랑과 참되심을 베풀어 주시기 바랍니다. 또한 나도 여러분을 잘 대해 드리겠습니다. 여러분이 이런 일을 하셨으니까요.	And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
7	이제 용기를 내도록 하세요. 용맹스러운 사람들이 되세요. 여러분의 주인 사울이 돌아가셨으니까요. 게다가 나를, 유다 집안이 기름을 부어 자신들을 다스릴 임금으로 세웠으니까요.”	Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.
8	이스보셋이 이스라엘의 왕이 되다 넬의 아들 아브넬은 사울의 군대 사령관이었다. 그가 사울의 아들 이스보셋을 데리고 마하나임으로 건너갔다.	But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s host, took Ish–bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
9	그러고는 아브넬이 이스보셋을 임금으로 세웠다. 길르앗과 아슈리와 이스르엘, 에브라임과 베냐민과 온 이스라엘을 다스리게 했다.	And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
10	40세에 사울의 아들 이스보셋이 이스라엘을 다스리는 임금이 되었다. 그는 2년 동안 임금으로 다스렸다. 오직 유다 집안은 다윗을 따르고 있었다.	Ish–bosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
11	다윗이 헤브론에서 유다 집안을 다스리는 임금으로 있었던 날수는 7년 6개월이었다.	And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
12	이스라엘과 유다가 전쟁을 벌이다 넬의 아들 아브넬이 사울의 아들 이스보셋의 신하들을 거느리고 나왔다. 마하나임에서 기브온으로 갔다.	And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ish–bosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13	그러자 스루야의 아들 요압과 다윗의 신하들이 나왔다. 그들은 기브온 연못에서 서로 마주쳤다. 한쪽 사람들은 연못 이쪽에, 다른 한쪽 사람들은 연못 저쪽에 자리를 잡았다.	And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.
14	아브넬이 요압에게 말했다. “젊은이들을 나서게 하시오, 우리 앞에서 한판 겨루도록!” 요압이 말했다. “나서게 하시오!”	And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.
15	그들이 일어나 사람 수를 맞추어 나섰다. 베냐민 사람 열두 명이 사울의 아들 이스보셋 쪽에서 나왔고 다윗의 부하들 가운데서 열두 명이 나섰다.	Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ish–bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16	그들은 저마다 맞은편 사람의 머리를 꽉 붙들었다. 그러고는 자기 칼로 맞은편 사람 옆구리를 찔러 함께 쓰러졌다. 그곳을 헬갓핫수림이라고 불렀다. 기브온에 있는 곳이다.	And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkath–hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17	그날 싸움이 매우 거셌다. 아브넬과 이스라엘 사람들이 다윗의 부하들 앞에서 무너졌다.	And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
18	거기에 스루야의 아들 삼 형제가 있었다. 요압과 아비새와 아사헬이었다. 아사헬은 발이 빨랐다. 마치 들에 사는 한 마리 가젤과도 같았다.	And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.
19	아사헬이 아브넬의 뒤를 쫓아갔다. 오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 벗어나지 않고 아브넬의 뒤를 따라갔다.	And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.
20	아브넬이 뒤돌아보며 말했다. “그대, 아사헬이오?” 그가 말했다. “그렇소.”	Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.
21	아브넬이 그에게 말했다. “오른쪽이나 왼쪽으로 벗어나시오. 젊은이 한 사람을 붙들어 그의 갑옷을 빼앗아 가시오.” 그러나 아사헬은 돌아가지 않고 계속 그를 따라갔다.	And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.
22	아브넬이 다시 아사헬에게 말했다. “나를 따라오지 말고 돌아가시오. 무슨 까닭으로 내가 그대를 땅에 쓰러뜨리겠소? 그러고서 어떻게 내가 그대의 형 요압 앞에서 내 얼굴을 들겠소?”	And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?
23	그래도 그는 돌아가려 하지 않았다. 아브넬은 창을 뒤로 잡고 그의 배를 찔렀다. 창이 등으로 나왔다. 그는 거기 쓰러져 그 자리에서 죽었다. 아사헬이 쓰러져 죽은 곳에 이른 사람들은 모두 멈춰 섰다.	Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.
24	요압과 아비새가 아브넬을 뒤쫓았다. 해가 질 무렵에는 암마 언덕에 이르렀다. 그곳은 기브온 광야로 가는 길에 있는 기아흐에 이웃한 곳이다.	Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
25	베냐민 사람들이 아브넬 뒤로 모여 한 무리를 이루었다. 그들은 한 언덕 꼭대기로 올라가 섰다.	And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.
26	아브넬이 요압에게 외쳤다. “끝없이 칼에게 먹이를 줄 거요? 그러다 나중에 가서 쓴맛을 본다는 걸 그대도 알지 않소? 언제까지 군사들한테 말하지 않을 셈이오, 자기 형제들 뒤쫓는 일을 그만두고 돌아오라고 말이오?”	Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?
27	요압이 말했다. “하나님이 살아 계심을 걸고 분명히 말하오. 장군이 그렇게 말하지 않았더라면, 아침이 되어야 군사들이 저마다 자기 형제 뒤쫓는 일을 그쳤을 것이오.”	And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.
28	그런 다음 요압은 뿔나팔을 불었다. 온 군대가 멈추어 섰다. 더는 이스라엘을 뒤쫓지 않았다. 그들이 더는 서로 전쟁하지 않았다.	So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
29	아브넬과 그가 거느린 사람들은 그날 밤이 새도록 아라바를 걸어갔다. 요르단강을 건너고 비드론 온 땅을 거쳐 마하나임에 이르렀다.	And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.
30	요압은 아브넬을 뒤쫓다가 돌아와 군사를 모두 모았다. 다윗의 부하들 가운데 19명이 없었고 아사헬도 없었다.	And Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.
31	다윗의 부하들은 베냐민 사람들과 아브넬이 거느린 사람들을 쳐서 360명을 죽였다.	But the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner’s men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.
32	그들은 아사헬을 옮겨 가 베들레헴에 있는 그의 아버지의 무덤에서 장례를 치렀다. 그러고서 요압과 그가 거느린 사람들은 밤이 새도록 걸어갔다. 그들이 헤브론에 이르렀을 때 동이 터 올랐다.	And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Beth–lehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.
