1	사울과 그의 아들들이 죽다 필리스티아 사람들이 이스라엘과 전쟁을 치르고 있었다. 이스라엘 사람들이 필리스티아 사람들 앞에서 달아나다가 칼에 맞아 쓰러졌다. 길보아산에서였다.	Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.
2	필리스티아 사람들이 사울과 그의 아들들을 바싹 따라붙었다. 그러고는 필리스티아 사람들이 요나단과 아비나답과 말기수아, 곧 사울의 아들들을 쳐 죽였다.	And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi–shua, Saul’s sons.
3	전쟁이 사울에게 버거워져 갔고, 활잡이들 곧 활 가진 사람들이 그를 찾아냈다. 그는 활잡이들 때문에 벌벌 떨었다.	And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.
4	사울이 그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람한테 말했다. “너의 칼을 뽑아 그 칼로 나를 찌르거라. 할례받지 않은 이 사람들이 와서 나를 찔러 내가 지독한 꼴을 당하지 않도록!” 그러나 그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람은 너무 겁에 질려 그러려고 하지 않았다. 결국 사울은 칼을 뽑아 스스로 그 위에 엎어졌다.	Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
5	그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람은 사울이 죽는 것을 보고 자신도 자기 칼 위에 스스로 엎어져 함께 죽고 말았다.	And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.
6	사울과 그의 세 아들과 그의 무기를 들고 따르는 사람, 또한 그의 모든 사람들이 그날에 함께 죽었다.	So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.
7	골짜기 건너편과 요르단강 건너편에 있던 이스라엘 사람들은 이스라엘 사람들이 달아나 버린 것을 보았다. 사울과 그의 아들들이 죽은 것도 보았다. 그래서 그들은 도시들을 버리고 달아났다. 그러자 필리스티아 사람들이 들어와 그 도시들에 살았다.	And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
8	다음날이 되자 필리스티아 사람들이 왔다. 칼에 맞아 죽은 사람들의 옷을 벗기려는 것이었다. 그들이 사울과 그의 세 아들이 그 길보아산에 쓰러져 있는 것을 발견했다.	And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.
9	그들은 사울의 머리를 베고 그의 갑옷을 벗겼다. 그러고는 필리스티아 땅 사방으로 보내 그들의 우상들의 집에, 또 백성에게 승리의 기쁜 소식을 알렸다.	And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.
10	그들은 그의 갑옷을 아슈타르테의 집에 갖다 놓았다. 그의 시체는 벳스안 성벽에 박아 두었다.	And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth–shan.
11	길르앗의 야베스에 사는 사람들이 사울의 소식을 들었다. 필리스티아 사람들이 그에게 저지른 짓거리에 대한 것이었다.	And when the inhabitants of Jabesh–gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;
12	그러자 용사들이 모두 일어나 밤새도록 가서, 사울의 시신과 그의 아들들의 시신을 벳스안 성벽에서 내려서 거두었다. 그들은 야베스로 와서, 거기서 그 시신들을 불살랐다.	All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth–shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.
13	용사들은 그들의 뼈를 가져다가 야베스 쪽에 있는 에셀나무 아래에 묻었다. 그러고는 7일 동안 금식했다.	And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
