1	한나가 괴로워하다 한 사람이 에브라임 산지 라마다임소빔에 있었다. 그의 이름은 엘가나였다. 그는 여로함의 아들, 엘리후의 손자, 도후의 증손자, 숩의 고손자인 에브라임 사람이었다.	Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim–zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:
2	그에게는 두 아내가 있었다. 한 사람의 이름은 한나이고 다른 한 사람의 이름은 브닌나였다. 브닌나에게는 자식이 있었으나 한나에게는 자식이 없었다.	And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.
3	이 사람 엘가나는 해마다 자기가 사는 도시에서 실로로 올라갔다. 전능하신 여호와께 엎드려 절하고 제물을 바치러 간 것이다. 거기에는 엘리의 두 아들인 홉니와 비느하스가 여호와의 제사장으로 있었다.	And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the Lord, were there.
4	제물을 바치는 날이 되어 엘가나가 제물을 바치고 나면, 그는 자기 아내 브닌나와 브닌나의 아들딸들에게 한 몫씩 챙겨 주곤 했다.	And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:
5	한나에게는 그가 남다른 몫을 주었다. 여호와께서 그의 아기집을 닫으셨지만 엘가나는 한나를 사랑했기 때문이다.	But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the Lord had shut up her womb.
6	그런데 여호와께서 한나의 아기집을 닫으셨기 때문에, 한나와 다투던 브닌나는 한나의 심기를 지나치게 건드려 몹시 아프게 했다.	And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb.
7	이런 일이 해마다 되풀이되었다. 여호와의 집에 올라갈 때마다 브닌나가 이렇게 한나의 심기를 건드렸다. 한나는 울며 아무것도 먹지 않았다.	And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the Lord, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.
8	그의 남편 엘가나가 그에게 말했다. “한나, 왜 울어요? 왜 먹지 않아요? 왜 마음이 언짢아요? 당신에게는 내가 열 아들보다 낫지 않아요?”	Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?
9	한나가 엘리의 대답을 듣고 돌아오다 한나가 일어났다. 실로에서 먹고 마신 다음이었다. 엘리 제사장은 여호와의 성전 문기둥 곁에 있는 의자에 앉아 있었다.	So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the Lord.
10	한나는 마음이 쓰라렸다. 그래서 여호와께 기도하며 구슬프게 울었다.	And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.
11	그가 단단히 약속하며 말씀드렸다. “전능하신 여호와여, 주님의 종인 저의 괴로움을 꼭 보시고 저를 기억해 주십시오. 주님의 종인 저를 잊지 마십시오. 주님의 종인 저에게 사내아이를 하나 주십시오. 그 아이의 평생을 여호와께 드리겠습니다. 그리고 털 깎는 칼을 그의 머리에 대지 않도록 하겠습니다.”	And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
12	한나가 여호와 앞에서 오래도록 기도하는데, 엘리가 그의 입을 지켜보고 있었다.	And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the Lord, that Eli marked her mouth.
13	한나는 마음속으로 말하고 있어서, 그 입술만 오물거릴 뿐 소리는 들리지 않았다. 그래서 엘리는 한나가 술에 취했다고 생각했다.	Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.
14	엘리가 그에게 말했다. “언제까지 취해 있을 겁니까? 포도주를 끊으세요.”	And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.
15	한나가 대답하여 말했다. “그렇지 않아요, 제사장님! 저는 절망에 빠져 있는 여자입니다. 포도주도 맥주도 마시지 않았어요. 저는 제 속을 여호와 앞에 쏟아 놓고 있었습니다.	And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the Lord.
16	제사장님의 종인 저를 몹쓸 여자로 여기지는 말아 주십시오. 제가 불만과 울분이 커서 이렇게까지나 털어놓고 있었던 겁니다.”	Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.
17	엘리가 대답하여 말했다. “평안히 가세요. 이스라엘의 하나님이 그대가 간절히 요청한 것을 받아들여 주시기 바랍니다.”	Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.
18	한나가 대답했다. “제사장님의 종인 저를 굽어살펴 주십시오.” 그러고서 한나는 자기 길로 갔다. 먹을 것을 먹고, 더는 얼굴에 그런 기색을 나타내지 않았다.	And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.
19	한나가 사무엘을 낳아 바치다 그들이 아침 일찍 일어나 여호와 앞에서 예배하고 라마에 있는 집으로 돌아갔다. 엘가나가 자신의 아내 한나와 잠자리했고, 여호와께서 한나를 기억해 주셨다.	And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.
20	때가 되어 한나는 아이를 가졌고 아들을 낳았다. 한나는 그의 이름을 사무엘이라고 지어 불렀다. “여호와께 내가 그를 두고 요청했다.” 하고 말했기 때문이다.	Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the Lord.
21	남편 엘가나와 그의 온 집안이 해마다 드리는 희생제물과 단단히 약속하여 드리는 제물을 여호와께 드리려고 올라갔다.	And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.
22	그런데 한나는 올라가지 않았다. 그의 남편에게 이렇게 말했다. “이 아이가 젖을 떼게 되면 내가 아이를 데리고 가겠습니다. 그러면 아이가 여호와 앞에 모습을 나타내고 거기에 영원히 머물 것입니다.”	But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and there abide for ever.
23	한나에게 그의 남편 엘가나가 말했다. “당신이 보기에 좋을 대로 하세요. 이 아이가 젖을 뗄 때까지는 남아 있어요. 여호와께서 참으로 그 말씀을 이루어 주시기를 원해요.” 한나는 남아서 젖을 뗄 때까지 아들을 길렀다.	And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the Lord establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.
24	한나는 아들이 젖을 뗀 후에 그를 데리고 올라갔다. 수소 세 마리와 밀가루 22리터와 포도주 한 항아리를 가지고 갔다. 한나가 아이를 실로에 있는 여호와의 집에 데리고 갔다. 그런데 아이는 아직 어렸다.	And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the Lord in Shiloh: and the child was young.
25	그들은 수소를 잡은 뒤에, 아이를 엘리에게로 데려갔다.	And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.
26	한나가 말했다. “주제넘은 말씀입니다만, 제사장님, 제사장님의 목숨이 살아 있음을 걸고 말씀드립니다. 제가 바로, 이곳 제사장님 곁에 서서 여호와께 기도했던 그 여자입니다.	And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the Lord.
27	이 아이를 위해 제가 기도했고, 여호와께서 저의 요청을 받아들여 주셨습니다. 제가 그분께 요청한 것을요.	For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
28	그래서 저도 이제 이 아이를 여호와께 바칩니다, 그가 사는 모든 날 동안에요. 이 아이는 여호와께 바쳐진 아이입니다.” 그리고 그들이 거기서 여호와께 예배했다.	Therefore also I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the Lord. And he worshipped the Lord there.
