1	주님이 다시 오실 것은 확실하다 이제, 사랑하는 여러분, 이 두 번째 편지를 여러분에게 써 보냅니다. 이 편지들로 나는 여러분의 기억을 되살려서 순수한 생각을 일깨우려 합니다.	This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2	거룩한 예언자들을 통해서 이전에 말씀하신 것들과 여러분의 사도들이 전해 준 계명에 대한 기억을 되살려 드리려고 합니다. 주님과 구원자이신 분의 계명에 대한 기억을요.	That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3	먼저 이것을 알아 두십시오. 마지막 날들에 마구 빈정거리는 사람들이 나올 것입니다. 자기들 자신의 욕망대로 살아가면서 말입니다.	Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4	그들은 이렇게 말할 것입니다. “그분이 다시 오신다는 약속은 어디 갔소? 그사이에 조상들은 잠들어 버렸소. 모든 것은 창조가 시작된 이래로 이렇게 그대로 남아 있소.”	And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5	그들이 이런 말을 하는 것은 일부러 이것을 못 본 체하기 때문입니다. 곧 하나님이 말씀하심으로 하늘이 아주 옛날부터 있었고, 또 땅이 물에서 나와서 물과 물 사이에 존재하게 되었다는 것을 말이지요.	For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6	하나님의 말씀 때문에, 그때 서 있던 세상은 물로 홍수가 났을 때 멸망했습니다.	Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7	한편 지금 있는 하늘과 땅은 그 똑같은 말씀으로, 불에 타 버릴 때를 위해 보존되고 있습니다. 불경건한 사람들이 심판을 받아 망할 날까지 유지되고 있는 것입니다.	But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
8	사랑하는 여러분, 이 한 가지를 잊지 마시기 바랍니다. 하루가 주님에게는 1,000년 같고, 1,000년이 하루와 같습니다.	But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9	주님은 약속을 이루시는 데 늑장 부리지 않으십니다. 몇몇 사람들이 늑장 부리신다고 생각하지만 그렇지 않습니다. 오히려 주님은 여러분을 위해 참고 계시는 것입니다. 아무도 멸망하지 않고 모두가 기회를 얻어 회개하기를 바라시기 때문입니다.	The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
10	주님의 날은 도둑같이 올 것입니다. 그날에 하늘이 요란하게 큰 소리를 내며 사라질 것입니다. 천체들은 불타서 파괴될 것입니다. 땅도, 그 안에서 일어난 일들도, 찾아볼 수 없을 것입니다.	But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
11	이 모든 것들이 이런 식으로 파괴되어 없어질 텐데, 여러분은 어떠한 사람이 되어야 마땅하겠습니까? 반드시 거룩하고 경건한 생활을 해야 하지 않겠습니까?	Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12	하나님의 날이 오기를 기다리며 그날을 앞당겨야 하지 않겠습니까? 그날이 오면 하늘이 불붙어 파괴될 것이고, 천체들이 타서 녹아 버릴 것입니다.	Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13	그러나 우리는 새 하늘과 새 땅을, 하나님의 약속에 따라 기다리고 있습니다. 거기는 정의가 자리 잡고 사는 곳입니다.	Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14	마지막 권유와 축복 따라서, 사랑하는 여러분, 이런 일들을 기다리고 있으니, 점도 없이 흠도 없이 평화롭게 하나님 앞에 나타날 수 있도록 애쓰십시오.	Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15	우리 주님의 참으심을 구원을 위한 것이라고 여기십시오. 우리의 사랑하는 형제 바울도 자기에게 주신 지혜를 따라 여러분에게 그렇게 써 보냈듯이 말입니다.	And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16	그가 또한 모든 편지들에서 이것들을 두고 말할 때 그 편지들에서 그렇게 써 보냈지요. 그런데 그 가운데에는 이해하기 어려운 것들이 더러 있습니다. 배우지 못하고 굳건하지 않은 사람들이 다른 성경 말씀들을 잘못 해석하듯이 그 어려운 것들을 잘못 해석할 것입니다. 그리하여 자기 자신들을 멸망으로 이끌어 갈 것입니다.	As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
17	그러므로 여러분 자신들은, 사랑하는 여러분, 이 사실을 미리 알아서 조심하십시오. 규범을 벗어난 사람들의 빗나간 길로 함께 끌려가서, 저마다 든든히 서 있던 곳에서 떨어져 나가지 않도록 말입니다.	Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.
18	우리의 주님이시며 구원자이신 예수 그리스도의 은혜와 그분을 아는 지식에서 자라나십시오. 그분께 영광이 이제와 영원한 날까지 있기를 빕니다!	But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
