1	자기소개와 인사 바울이네. 그리스도 예수님의 사도라네. 하나님의 뜻으로 그리스도 예수님 안에 있는 생명의 약속에 따라서 된 사도라네.	Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
2	디모데에게, 곧 사랑하는 나의 아들인 그대에게 이 편지를 보내네. 은혜, 한결같은 사랑, 평화가 하나님 아버지와 그리스도 예수 우리 주님으로부터 내리기를 비네!	To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3	디모데를 두고 감사 기도를 드리다 나는 하나님께 감사드리네. 조상들을 따라 깨끗한 양심으로 내가 섬기는 하나님께! 밤과 낮으로 매달리는 기도를 드릴 때마다 끊임없이 그대를 기억하면서 감사드리네.	I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
4	그대의 눈물을 기억하고 있기에 그대를 보고 싶은 마음 간절하네. 그리하여 나에게 기쁨이 가득하도록 말일세.	Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
5	그대 속에 있는 꾸밈없는 믿음을 기억하네. 그 믿음은 먼저 그대의 할머니 로이스 안에, 또 그대의 어머니 유니게 안에 자리 잡고 있었던 것이지. 그대 속에도 그 믿음이 있다고 나는 확신하네.	When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
6	복음을 위해 고난을 받으라 그런 까닭에 나는 그대에게 기억을 되살려 주어서 하나님이 주신 그 은혜의 선물에 다시 불을 붙이려 하네. 그 은혜는 내가 두 손을 얹어 안수하여 그대 속에 있게 된 것이지.	Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
7	하나님이 우리에게 비겁함의 영이 아니라, 능력과 사랑과 절제의 영을 주셨다네.	For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
8	그러므로 우리 주님을 증언하는 일이나 그분을 위해 갇혀 있는 나를 창피해하지 마시게. 오히려 하나님의 능력을 따라서 복음을 위해 나와 함께 고난을 받으시게.	Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
9	하나님은 우리를 구원하셨으며 거룩한 부르심으로 불러 주신 분일세. 그렇게 하신 것은 우리의 행위를 따른 것이 아니라 미리 정하신 뜻과 은혜를 따른 것이지. 그 은혜는 그리스도 예수님 안에서 영원 전에 우리에게 베푸신 것이네.	Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
10	그런데 그 은혜가 이제야 환하게 드러났네. 우리의 구원자 그리스도 예수님의 나타나심을 통해서라네. 그분이 죽음을 없애 버리시고 생명과 썩지 않음을 밝히 드러내셨네. 복음을 통해서 그렇게 하셨지.	But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
11	그 복음을 위해서 내가, 선포자와 사도와 교사로 세워졌네.	Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
12	이러한 이유로 내가 이런 일들도 겪고 있는 것이네. 그렇지만 나는 그것을 창피해하지 않네. 내가 믿어 온 분을 내가 알고 있고, 또 확신하고 있기 때문이지. 그분은 나에게 맡기신 일을 그날까지 지켜 주실 수 있다는 것을 말이야.	For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
13	그대가 나한테 들은 건전한 말씀들을 본보기로 삼으시게. 그리스도 예수님 안에서 자라난 믿음과 사랑으로 말일세.	Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
14	그대에게 맡겨진 좋은 일을 잘 지켜 내시게. 우리 안에 자리 잡고 사시는 성령님을 힘입어서 그리하시게.	That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
15	바울한테서 돌아선 사람과 잘 대해 준 사람 그대가 이것을 알고 있다시피, 속주 아시아에 있는 사람들은 모두 나한테서 돌아섰네. 그들 가운데 부겔로와 헤르모게네스가 있네.	This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
16	주님이 한결같은 사랑을 오네시보로의 가정에 베푸시기를 바라네. 그가 자주 나에게 새 기운을 얻게 해 주었고, 내가 사슬에 묶인 것을 창피해하지 않았네.	The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
17	오히려 로마에 와서는 부지런히 나를 찾아다녔고, 마침내 찾아냈지.	But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found me.
18	그날에 주님께서 그에게 주님으로부터 내리는 한결같은 사랑을 입게 하시기를 바라네. 에페수스에서 그가 섬긴 일들은 모두 그대 자신이 더 잘 알고 있네.	The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
