| 1 | യഹോവ വീടു പണിയാതിരുന്നാൽ പണിയുന്നവർ വൃഥാ അദ്ധ്വാനിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവ പട്ടണം കാക്കാതിരുന്നാൽ കാവല്ക്കാരൻ വൃഥാ ജാഗരിക്കുന്നു. | Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. |
| 2 | നിങ്ങൾ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേല്ക്കുന്നതും നന്നാ താമസിച്ചു കിടപ്പാൻ പോകുന്നതും കഠിനപ്രയത്നം ചെയ്തു ഉപജീവിക്കുന്നതും വ്യൎത്ഥമത്രേ; തന്റെ പ്രിയന്നോ, അവൻ അതു ഉറക്കത്തിൽ കൊടുക്കുന്നു. | It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. |

| 5 | അവയെക്കൊണ്ടു തന്റെ ആവനാഴിക നിറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന പുരുഷൻ ഭാഗ്യവാൻ; നഗരവാതില്ക്കൽവെച്ചു ശത്രുക്കളോടു സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോൾ അങ്ങനെയുള്ളവർ ലജ്ജിച്ചുപോകയില്ല. | Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. |
